One day while driving, I heard a story that really touched my heart. It was about a 12 year- old boy who found out about some children who had lost everything in a fire. Compas- sion overtook him to the point that he gave every toy and piece of clothing he had, even the shoes he was wearing. His mother asked him why he had so many bags of things to give away. He replied, "Mom, I have everything and these kids have nothing." Wow! What a big heart this young man had! I believe that he tapped into a biblical, spiritual principle from Acts 20:35 (AMP). Apostle Paul states, "In everything I showed you [by example] that by working hard in this way you must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He Himself said, 'It is more blessed [and brings greater joy] to give than to receive." Everything Counts If we compare ourselves with other people, it can hin- der us from giving what we have to offer because we think that we don't have enough or that we are inadequate. How- Hands Extended DANYALE PATTERSON ever, all of us have something of value to give to others that can benefit them and bring them joy. For example, you may be good at cooking, while someone else can buy a meal for someone; both acts of kindness benefited the person. Maybe someone can put $200 dollars in a card, but you only have $20 dollars. As long as you are a cheerful giver, and you give from your heart what you have, you will find that your life will be filled with so much happiness. As you serve and lend a hand to oth- ers with your time, talent, and treasures - you become God's hands extended in the earth. 2 Corinthians 8:12 (NLT) states, "Whatever you give is acceptable if you give it ea- gerly. And give according to what you have, not what you don't have." PRAY THIS PRAYER: "Lord, Your word says that If we, being evil, know how to give good gifts to our children, how much more will you, our Father who is in heaven, give what is good to those of us who ask! I thank and praise you for being the ultimate giver. Fa- ther, you are the greatest giver because you gave your one and only son, so that whoever believes in him won't perish, but have everlasting life. For- give me for being self-centered at times, thinking about what I want to receive instead of what I can give. Forgive me too for complaining about what I don't have. Help me to remember that what I do have can bless others. May I find great joy in being a blessing to people and glorifying your holy name. In Jesus' name I pray - Amen."
