Page 8 February 2022 Christine Stephenson joins HT staff as reporter On her second day as children issues reporter for The Herald- Times (Bloomington), Christine Stephenson covered the Monroe County Community School Corp. board meeting, something that will be part of her news coverage for The Herald-Times. Stephenson is familiar with Bloomington, having graduated from Indiana University with a bachelor's degree in journalism in 2020. For three of her four years at IU, she was on the staff of the Indiana Daily Student. It was while she was at the IDS that she first realized how impactful articles in newspapers could be, she said. She had worked on the school magazine at Bishop Chatard High School in Indianapolis, where she graduated in 2016. But she didn't realize then how her stories could affect people's lives. After graduating, Stephenson moved to Jasper to work at the Dubois County Herald. She was one of two people in the newsroom and covered government and education. Some of her favorite stories dealt with students. "Kids are fun to talk to," she said. "They don't have a filter." — The Herald-Times (Bloomington) The News and Tribune staff proudly welcomes Libby Cunningham to its award-win- ning team. Cunningham started with the newspaper in December as a reporter. Among her specialties, Cunningham covers business, profile, crime and general news. She will also be taking over as the editor of Southern Indiana Business magazine, which is a product of the News and Tribune. Cunningham started her career after graduating from Ohio University in 2011, work- ing as a reporting intern at the Newark Advocate in central Ohio. She then moved to Cincinnati to cover the region's Northern Kentucky suburbs for the Cincinnati Enquirer's week- ly papers, the Community Press. Cunningham was hired in 2013 as a social media producer and social media reporter at WCPO-TV in Cincinnati and earned the 2018 Regional Edward R. Murrow Award for Social Media. Most recently, she's worked as a writer, reporter and news anchor for iHeartRadio, reporting for sta- tions 700WLW, 55KRC and the Tennessee Radio Network. — The News and Tribune (Jeffersonville) Libby Cunningham joins the News and Tribune Cunningham News in Brief Staff reports Times NWI (Munster) The top news leader and 18-year veteran journalist of The Times of Northwest Indiana is assuming a bigger role in The Times' parent company as one of the corporation's three news directors. Times Executive Editor Marc Chase, an award-winning investiga- tive journalist and editor, has been promoted to Midwest regional news director for Lee Enterprises. He now will be focusing full time on leading the editors of more than 20 news markets spanning the Midwest and working with two other regional news directors and the Lee Enterprises vice president-local news to develop and execute news strategy for the corporation. Lee Enterprises owns daily newspaper and digital media com- panies spanning nearly 80 markets throughout the country. The corporation's Vice President-Local News Jason Adrians, who has worked with Chase for several years, made the announcement of Chase's promo- tion. "Marc Chase has served readers in Northwest Indiana with distinc- tion for a really long time," Adrians said. "What's more, Marc has set an incredibly high standard for the quality of deep watchdog, investi- gative and data reporting projects produced by journalists under his watchful eye. The delivery of exceptional and trustworthy local news has never been more impor- tant, and we're really fortunate to have an outstanding editor like Marc setting the highest possible standards for our news organiza- tions and journalists across the Midwest." As a result of Chase's promo- tion, he will be stepping away from his role as executive editor for The Times. "But I want The Times readers and Northwest Indiana residents to know this is still home for me," Chase said. "The Times will con- tinue to be a very important market within the greater Midwest team that I'll be leading. My wife, family and I will continue to reside here in Northwest Indiana, and the new executive editor, when chosen, will be an important part of our greater Midwest team." Chase will be leading the search for a new executive editor. Until one is chosen, The Times Managing Editor Kerry Erickson will assume the role of interim executive editor. Chase is in his 24th year work- ing for Lee Enterprises news companies. He began his career as a police and courts reporter, and then an investigative reporter, for the Quad-City Times in Davenport, Iowa, in 1998 before joining The Times of Northwest Indiana as the chief investigative reporter in 2003. His positions with The Times of Northwest Indiana also have included various news editor roles, investigative editor, opinion page editor and columnist. "I'll still be very much in touch and connected with this great com- munity that is my home," Chase said. "In my new role, I'll be work- ing with other corporation news leaders to focus more resources on the award-winning, community- strengthening and relevant journal- ism that the readers of Northwest Indiana, and throughout the Midwest, demand and deserve from our digital and print news platforms. "This new chapter is going to benefit all who are touched by our news products — especially our loyal readers and subscribers.
