The Daily Star, Oneonta, N.Y., Friday, January 21, 2022 20 By Dana Simpson TV Media Making a prime-time 'Deal': Everything is more ex- citing after nightfall, and game shows appear to be no differ- ent. Following in the footsteps of the "The Price Is Right At Night's" Jan. 12 and 19 spe- cials, CBS is launching a second annual nocturnal edition of "Let's Make a Deal." Tune in for the action when it airs Wednesday, Jan. 26, on the network. Hosted by musician, actor and "Whose Line Is It Any- way?" improv comic Wayne Brady, "Let's Make a Deal" is one show in a recent trend of 1960s game show reboots. Originally created by Stefan Hatos and Monty Hall and launched in 1963, the show was hosted by Hall for three decades — albeit sporadically through a series of network moves, cancelations and re- boots. Brady has now been serving as host for nearly 13 years, with assistance from an- nouncer Jonathan Mangum and model Tiffany Coyne. Across all variations of the show — including its "Prime- time" specials — studio audi- ence members, each potential contestants, dress up in out- landish and bizarre costumes to catch the attention of the host. Once selected, the con- testant (or pair of contestants as married couples are often chosen to compete as a team) is presented with a medium- size offer in the form of money or a gift. They are then encour- aged through a variety of games to make a series of deals with the host in the hope of upgrading to a more valu- able loot, all "while trying to avoid the dreaded Zonks" (per CBS). Last year's "Primetime" spe- cial featured "Bob Hearts Abishola" stars Billy Gardell and Folake Olowofoyeku as Brady and the "Deal" team gave away a total of $21,000 in cash and prizes in honor of ringing in 2021. By that logic, fans of the show should expect an even larger total prize this year, and perhaps a few more well-known special guests. realtalk Wayne Brady hosts "Let's Make a Deal Primetime" B/The Pine Shop 6x7.5 Oreck Vacuum Sales and Service Bags & Belts for many other Brands Old Village Colonial Paints in Oil & Latex
