Chargers place fourth in the Green County Invitational By Matthew Haycraft The Pike Central Charger boys' basketball team played in the Green County Invitational this last week, placing fourth with a win and two losses. In the first game, the Chargers faced off with the Jug Rox, of Shoals, taking the victory with a score of 51- 42. During the first half of the game, the Chargers came out a little slow with their scoring, getting a lot of their points in free throws. By half- time, the score was 27-18; however, the Chargers did not let that get them down or deter them from their goal of winning the game. They hit the floor in the second half of the game ready to crush the competition and about halfway in, they did just that. They picked up their scoring and their defensive play shot through the roof. There were a lot of times that the score went back and forth, but the Chargers kept up the fight and pulled through with the win, tally- ing a total of 33 points scored in the second half. The Chargers lead scorers for the face off were Quade Morton and Peyton Howald, with 18 points each. Following them were Kendric Sorgi- us with six points, Braden Howald with four points, Chase Ridao with three points and Julian Gish with two points scored during the game. Coach Hunter Elliott said, "I was proud of the pride and resiliency we showed in the second half. We came out and gave up 20 points in the first quarter, where they went 9 for 11, but then only allowed nine more makes for the rest of the game. We have to be more consistent on both ends of the floor. We were still careless with the basketball at times and had some unforced turnovers. In the Tuesday match-up with Heritage Hills, the Lady Chargers started out slow in the first half of the game, only scoring 14 points to the Patriots' 36.
