The Press-Dispatch Wednesday, December 22, 2021 D-1 CHURCH Submit church items: Call: 812-354-8500 Email: news@pressdispatch.net or bring in a hard copy: 820 E. Poplar Street, Petersburg Another fairly nice week of tolerable tem- peratures and I told someone, each day we have that is nice is one less bad day, because it takes us one day closer to springtime when things become fresh again. I know I'm wish- ing my life away by looking forward to spring- time, but it is a favorite of mine. Last Sunday, we took our grandson to church with us and he was a really good boy. Made me proud of him. We drove to Oakland City to eat a fish sandwich at a restaurant there. There is a new store in place of Fred's. Sounds like they have lots of stuff in their store. My wife and our grandson shopped while I rested in the car. They bought sever- al items and little Wyatt shopped with her and again he was bragged on, so there is hope for him. He is all boy and most of the time he lets it show. They were having an ugly sweater show go- ing on, but I didn't have an ugly sweater. So I made myself an ugly T-shirt and wore it. I was told it was definitely original and nice. There was no prizes, just for bragging rights. I tried to help my wife do the mopping, be- fore it was time to pick up Wyatt from the bus. A fter I got him home, I finished putting the new wheel bearings on our oldest John Deere mower. It was like night and day different when I drove it. I have one more mower to repair. It has a ground problem and the grounds on this mower are extremely hard to find. It will get done though. My wife had two appointments in the same building, so it saved time for us. She is going to have to have some repair to her gums and some of her teeth. Without dental insurance, it sounds rather expensive to have it all done. We had to be home in time to pick up our grandson from the bus and then take him to the Health Department to have a vaccination for COVID. He did real well with his shot and took it like a big guy. He had something with him to look at while they gave him the shot. He was concentrating on what he was look- ing at instead of thinking about the shot. If that works, most of us could use his technique. We all had some restless nights during the week as our grandkids were brought for us to care for them. We napped awhile after Wyatt went to school. Friday afternoon and Saturday afternoon, I rang Salvation Army bells for their red kettles. I have volunteered four times so far this season and it is rewarding to know you are helping someone in need. The unfortunate people in the Kentucky neighborhoods who were hit so hard by the tornadoes should be eligible for help. If you have some extra time, I'm sure that my friend would be happy to find you a time slot or two to ring those bells. This recent Sunday at church, I filled in for Greg as Sunday school teacher and we had a lesson about Agur. He was a simple man, not the most educated man chosen by God to re- ceive the Word. God knew Agur was faithful to do as He wanted. Agur wanted to be a righ- teous man and he only wanted what was conve- nient for himself from God and certainly nev- er wanted to ever do things which would bring any bad reflection to God. Agur is a fine exam- ple for us today. Well it is time to bring this article to The Press-Dispatch and as always, be a blessing to others and be looking forward to celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I just now realized this article won't be out again until after Christmas, so have a very Merry Christmas. The Kingdom Reign of Christ, often called the Millennium, is, of course, still future, but even this dispensation will commence with a clear indication that our Lord's beneficent reign will not change the unregenerate heart. Man is still a failure. This will be evident from the fact that to put the rebellion down our Lord will have to "break" the nations "with a rod of iron" and "dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel" (Psa.2:9). Indeed, He will have to "rule them with a rod of iron" (Rev.2:27). It is not strange, then, that we read in Revelation 20 :7-9: "And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison, "And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea. "And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them." This final rebellion is followed by the cast- ing of Satan and all unbelievers into the lake of fire and the bringing in of the new heavens and the new earth in which all the reconciled find their all in Christ (Rev. 20 :10 -21:1; Eph.1:9,10 ; Col. 1:19,20). It is interesting and instructive to see in the book of Revelation how the Lamb slain occupies the center of the glory of the universe. Not one saint from any age will ev- er boast of his own righteousness in that day. All will acknowledge their own unworthiness and proclaim the praises of the One who died that they might live and be justified and glo- ried. And even the unsaved and all demons and angels will acknowledge Jesus as Lord in that day. Because He humbled Himself and submit- ted Himself to "even the death of the cross… God also hath highly exalted Him, and given Him a name which is above every name: "That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in Heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; "And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is lord, to the glory of God the Fa- ther" (Phil.2:8 -11). Stam This year we celebrate Christmas with an uncertain future in a dangerous world. The forces of evil that sought to destroy Christ when he was a baby are still determined to silence His message of love, forgiveness and hope. Even in this time of socialism and fear, Christ is still the symbol for peace and hope. The message of Christmas does not change. Christ came into this world with a purpose. That purpose is the redemption of all mankind. Christ is still the light of a world that has been darkened by hate, greed and liberalism. This Christmas may be different in some ways but Christ is still the same. Let us honor and wor- ship Him as we celebrate His birth in Bethle- hem 2100 years ago. In public life, the forces of secular people wish to rob this generation of some of our most sacred and joyful celebrations. It is tragic that many school districts have eliminated Christ- mas from the agenda. In some schools, teachers are forced to speak on- ly of a winter break and sing only secular songs. Gone are the beautiful Christmas carols and the nativity scenes. Our children have been de- nied their Christmas traditions, which have been part of our American heritage. We must reclaim this wonderful day and honor Christ. Let us pray for peace in our world and make known the one who can give the gift of peace to every seeking heart. Our world desperate- ly needs real joy, peace and hope. Friday, Dec. 24 at 7pm Please join our church family with carols and lighting a Christmas Candle for this glorious season. Have a blessed CHristmas witH all your family and friends, and a very Happy new year. 910 Main St., Petersburg 812-354-6844 main street Presbyterian Church Candlelight Service Our doors will be open to all those who wish to share this night with us.
