VARSITY GIRLS OBLITERATE EVANSVILLE BOSSE By Matthew Haycraft Pike Central's Lady Charger varsity basket- ball team took Evansville Bosse to the clean- ers on Saturday, December 11 on their home court, winning 61-37. The Lady Chargers started a little slow in the first quarter of the game, pulling togeth- er only eight points, but even with that, they were still in the lead by three points. Howev- er, as any avid basketball fan knows, this can change in seconds, so the varsity team would have to up the heat to keep in the lead for the game. In the next three quarters of the game, they did more than that, they turned the heat and energy on maximum overdrive, and oblit- erated Bosse, leading the scoring each quar- ter, with over 15 points scored each one. Senior Mallory Hunt led the scoring for the team with 20 points in two-pointers and free throws alone. Right behind Hunt was Brai- ley Mills scoring 13 points for the game, in- cluding three three-pointers. Lady Char- ger junior Kahle Young and senior Kya Sul- livan rocked out together, both scoring a to- tal of 10 points each. Sullivan had some good three-pointers and Kahle Young had a bar- rage of two-pointers. Following them was ju- nior Delaney Welch with two three-pointers, tallying up six points, and sophomore Anna Whitehead pulling in two points. Coach Kyle McCutchan said, "We got off to a slower scoring start in the first quarter, but really picked it up after to score 61 points. We took advantage of our mismatches and pulled away to a comfortable win. Our execu- tion was pretty good and hopefully we carry that into this week." JUNIOR VARSITY The junior varsity Lady Chargers also played Bosse on Saturday, for two quarters instead of the normal four. The game end- ed with the Lady Chargers JV defeated by a score of 18 -11. During the first quarter of the game, Pike Central started out strong and in the lead by three points, with Anna Whitehead scoring three two-pointers and Emma Hunt scoring one. In the second and last quarter of the game, Bosse pulled away from them, putting together 13 points to the Lady Char- gers' three. The junior varsity played hard, but were unable to hold Bosse through both quarters. Totals 21 16 -12 16 61 Chargers come up short of the win By Matthew Haycraft The Pike Central Charger varsity boys' basketball team faced off with Southridge on Saturday, December 11, losing by a score of 37-34. In the first half of the game, the Char- gers hit the floor running, pulling togeth- er a 10 -point lead on Southridge by half- time. They scored eight two-pointers, two three-pointers and three free throws, with Charger sophomore Quade Morton scoring 10 of the points for the half. During the third quarter of the game, the Chargers seemed to lose their steam and had problems with their execution and scoring. They only scored two points for the whole quarter, with sophomore Julian Gish sink- ing a two-pointer in the basket. The fourth quarter began and the Chargers attempted to play catchup from the previous quarter's blunders. They managed to catch up and keep up mostly through the fourth quarter. However, they lost the game to Southridge by three points. The Chargers were lead in scoring by Mor- ton, with a tally of 12 points and 10 rebounds for the game. Following him in scoring were Gish with 10 points, Peyton Howald with five points, Alex Clark with four points and Ked- ric Sorgius with three points. Mallory Hunt, Lady Charger senior, jumps up and to the side to shoot the ball for a good two points during the Pike Central girls' varsity basketball game against Evansville Bosse on Saturday, December 11 at Pike Central. Charger junior Peyton Howald keeps the ball away from a Raiders player as he looks for an open team- mate to pass to during the Pike Cen- tral boys' varsity basketball game against Southridge on Saturday.
