B-8 Wednesday, December 15, 2021 The Press-Dispatch Charger swimming winning firsts PC swimming takes second at home By Matthew Haycraft The Pike Central swim team went to three different meets this week, taking home first at two and second at the third. The first meet of the week was at the Deaconess Aquatic Center against Evansville Central and Evansville Bosse on Tuesday, December 7, and was a girls' only swimming meet. The Lady Charger swimmers ended up with nine first places, six second plac- es and four third places in the 12-event meet. They took first place in the dual with final scores of 86 and 83. In the 200 -yard medley relay, Maddy Riley, Emma McKinney, Xavery Weis- man and Jillian Bailey took first place with a time of 2:13.15. While Jackie Bery, Izzy Luker, Alexis Oswalt and Ad- dy Russell took second place with a time of 2:21.52 in the relay. In the 200 -yard free, Berry took third place with a time of 2:46. While in the 200 -yard IM, Os- walt took second with a time of 2:54.24 and Weisman took third with a time of 2:55.18. During the 50 -yard free, Bailey took first with a time of 28.49, and Russell took third with a time of 31.33. The Lady Charger divers took both first and second with Tessa Vinnedge taking first with a score of 157.80, and Emily Krieg tak- ing second with a score of 115.50. In the 100 -yard butterfly, Oswalt took first with a time of 1:13.03, and in the 100 -yard free- style, McKinney took third with a time of 1:08.23. In the long haul, 500 -yard free- style, both swimmers took first and sec- ond, with Sarah Fenwick taking first with a time of 7:37.41 and Gabby Collins tak- ing second with a time of 7:40.82. The Lady Chargers then moved on to the 200 -yard freestyle relay, where Bai- ley, Riley, Weisman and McKinney took the first place spot with a time of 2:03.61. A fter that, the girls took first and sec- ond again in the 100 -yard butterfly, with Bailey taking first with a time of 1:11.45 and Riley second with a time of 1:14.63. In the last two events of the meet, the La- dy Chargers continued to dominate, with McKinney and Luker taking first and sec- ond in the 100 -yard breaststroke with times of 1:24.57 and 1:27.32, and ending the meet with Riley, Russell, Weisman and Oswalt taking first in the 400 -yard free relay. THURSDAY, DEC. 9 The Charger swimming teams then went on to swim against Southridge and South Spencer at South Spencer on Thursday. Both the boys' and girls' swim teams took home first place at this meet, dominating both opponents with a grand total of 13 firsts, 11 seconds and eight third place wins. The Charger boys' swim team ended the meet with a total of 152 points, 73 points more than sec- ond place. Whereas the Lady Chargers took first with a total of 116 points, three points more than second place. In the 200 -yard medley relay, the girls took second and third, with Riley, McK- inney, Weisman and Bailey clocking 2:13.77, and Berry, Luker, Oswalt and Russell clocking 2:19.79. In the boys' re- lay, the Chargers took first and third, with Wyatt Luff, Isaac Burdette, Michael Burkhart and Cobey McKinney clocking a time of 2:04.78, and Tyler DeCoursey, Ethan Mann, Xander Parker and Gage Schmitt clocking 2:15.66. Charger junior Draven Readle took first place for the Pike Central boys' swim team with a time of 2:11.08, beating out second place by more than 17 seconds. Following that win, both the boys' and the girls' teams took first and second in their respective 200 -yard IM events. The girls placed first with Weisman clocking 2:50.13 and second with Oswalt clock- ing 2:53.59. Whereas placing first for the boys was Michael Burkhart with a time of 2:50.98 and second was Luff with a time of 2:54.31. The Charger boys' team went on to take first and second yet again in the 50 -yard free, with Burdette placing first with a time of 25.90 and Cobey McKin- ney placing second with a time of 26.48. The Lady Chargers went on to take first in the 100 -yard fly, with Oswalt clocking 1:15.27, and the boys took sec- ond and third in the 100 -yard fly, with Michael Burkhart clocking 1:18.15 and Parker clocking 1:31.54. Following that up, the Lady Chargers took third in the 100 -yard free, with Russell clocking 1:08.24, and the boys taking first and third in the same event, with Cobey McK- inney clocking 1:00.14 and Mann clock- ing 1:06.04. The Chargers continued their winning with the 500 -yard free, with the girls tak- ing third with Gabby Collins clocking 7:35.43, and the boys taking first and third place with Readle clocking 6:14.77 and Schmitt clocking 7:49.78. A fter this event, the girls swam the 200 -yard free relay, with Riley, Weisman, Emma McK- inney and Bailey taking second with a time of 2:01.09. While in the same event, the boys' team took first and third, with Luff, Mann, DeCoursey and Schmitt clocking 1:58.22, and Max Burkhart, Carter Blackwell, Blaine Barnett and Parker taking second with a time of 2:13.31. The teams took on the 100 -yard back- stroke, taking first and second in the girls' event with Bailey and Riley, and second in the boys' event with Luff. A f- ter this event was the 100 -yard breast- stroke, where Luker took second for the girls' clocking a time of 1:32.57, and Bur- dette and Mann took first and second with times of 1:17 and 1:28. For the last two events of the meet, the 400 -yard free relay, both the boys and girls finished off with a bang. The girls took first with Riley, Russell, Weisman and Oswalt clocking 4:36, while in the boys' relay, Readle, Michael Burkhart, Cobey McKinney and Burdette took first as well with a time of 4:13.15, along with Max Burkhart, Blackwell, Barnett and DeCoursey taking third with a time of 5:24.22. MONDAY, DEC. 13 For the last meet of the week, the Char- gers faced off with Evansville North and Evansville Reitz at Pike Central, with both boys' and girls' teams placing sec- ond in the tri-meet. The boys ended up placing second with 78 points, missing out on first by 84 points, but still having one first, three seconds and three third place wins. The Charger boys placed first in the 100 -yard breaststroke, with Burdette clocking a time of 1:15.33, beating out the Evansville North swimmer by less than a second. They took second place in the 200 -yard free relay with Burdette, Mi- chael Burkhart, Readle and Cobey McK- inney clocking a time of 1:47.16; in the 200 -yard IM with Readle again, clocking a time of 2:36.04; in the 50 -yard free with Burdette again clocking a time of 25.92. Third place events for the boys were: the 200 -yard medley relay, with Luff, Burdette, Cobey McKinney and Readle clocking a time of 2:03.47; the 100 -yard free, with Covey McKinney clocking 58.53; the 500 -yard free, with Readle clocking 6:04.02; and the 100 -yard back- stroke, with Luff clocking 1:13.70. The Lady Chargers took second place for the tri-meet with a total points of 89, missing out on first by 62 points. They took home one first, four seconds and three third place wins. The first place win for the Lady Char- gers in the meet was by Bailey in the 100 -yard backstroke, clocking a time of 1:08.53. The second place wins for the Lady Chargers were: in the 50 -yard free, with Bailey clocking a time of 27.86 in this event; the 200 -yard medley relay, with Riley, Emma McKinney, Oswalt and Bailey clocking a time of 2:09.61; in the 100 -yard free, with Riley clocking a time of 1:03.37; and Vinnedge in the one-me- ter diving, tallying a score of 144.90. The third place wins for the Lady Chargers were: Oswalt in the 100 -yard fly, clock- ing a time of 1:16.35; Emma McKinney in the 100 -yard breaststroke, with a time of 1:23; and Riley, Luker, Weisman and Emma McKinney in the 200 -yard free re- lay clocking a time of 2:04.61.
