MORE WEALTH 8X WHITE HOUSEHOLDS HAVE AN AVERAGE OF THAN LATINX HOUSEHOLDS Arquitina Founded in Chicago in April 2020, Arquitina is a national nonprofit for emerging Latina women in the field of architecture. We are multicultural, we are Latina, and we are passionate about architecture and the built environment. We proudly contribute to the profession as architects, engineers, planners, construction managers, and sustainability professionals. Our mentors and mentees are located across the country. Latinas experience a lack of recognition and representation both in academia and professional practice, which affects career trajectories. While close to 50% of women are earning degrees in architecture and achieve license requirements 1.2 times sooner than men, women represent only about 17 percent of firm principals. A 2020 NCARB report shows that non-white candidates are 31% more likely to fall off the path of licensure. This is due to disparity in wages, promotions, and recognition. MISSION: The Arquitina mission is to reach above and beyond the 1% mark of licensed architects in the United States while creating equitable and inclusive opportunities in the architectural profession PROGRAMS: We mentor Latinas who are pursuing their architectural license through an eight-week mentoring program. It is led and organized by professional, licensed Latina architects and allied professionals (contractors, developers and construction managers). Cohorts begin in the spring and in the fall. EXECUTIVE: Alicia Ponce Founder & Chair CONTACT: arquitinaest2020@gmail.com ADDRESS: 1200 W 35th Street, Chicago, IL 60609 MESSAGE FROM THE CEO: Arquitina was created as a result of my personal journey in the architecture profession. There is a lack of mentorship, advocacy and representation to help us advance in our careers compared to our male and white male counterparts. It quickly became apparent that the few licensed Latinas I knew shared the same sentiment. The proof is in the numbers. Today there are just under 122,000 licensed architects in the United States, about 20% are women, and less than 1% are Latina. I founded Arquitina in 2020 to create a space for Latina women and provide key strategic mentorship to guide women undergoing the long and challenging task to become licensed. In one year we are in five states, we have completed three cohorts with 30 mentees and more than 50 mentors. We are growing! Alicia Ponce, Founder & Chair NEGOCIOS NOW STARTS THIS SPECIAL EDITION OF '100 LATINO NONPROFITS' WITH ARQUITINA A RECENTLY FORM ORGANIZATION CREATED BY LATINA ARCHITECTS.
