www.negociosnow.com 2 Diciembre 2021 I like to say that business should be linked to non- profits like a mother's umbilical cord to her children. It is these organizations that are the first line in the fight against violence of all kinds and the scourge of drug addiction. They shelter the homeless, care for the elderly and low-income children, protect immigrants, and provide medical care when people lack health insurance. It goes without saying that our nonprofits are key to keeping the community, where our businesses are based, healthy and stable. These are the same people who buy tor- tillas in a market, sit down to eat in a res- taurant, repair their car in the garage on the corner, or hire the services of accountants, lawyers, or real estate agents. The idea that entrepreneurs must return to their community what the community does for them is so noble that it does not deserve to be left in a vacuum. The story of Eddie Garcia (published in this edition), owner of Realty of Chicago, who gives turkeys on the eve of Thanksgiving, is a monument to that maxim. His gesture is in sharp contrast to the news coming from the tortilla factory El Milagro (The Miracle), a paradigm of fruit- ful business thanks to the Hispanic com- munity, but the target of protests by alle- gedly mistreated workers. Latino entrepreneurs should not wait for a miracle to help our nonprofit orga- nizations and help them with whatever they can. Once again, Negocios Now contributes to support these organizations with a new edition of "100 Latino Nonprofits" that will be distributed to the tables of those who can help the most: executives of large cor- porations, businesses, foundations, legis- lators, and government officials. True to our editorial line, the current edition also speaks of opportunities for 2022 when this publication will celebrate 15 years of serving its community.
