VARSITY BOYS' WIN AT PRINCETON By Matthew Haycraft The Pike Central Chargers' basketball team played at Princeton on Saturday, December 4, winning by a score of 43-41 in a hard-fought varsity game. The varsity boys' team hit the hardwood ready to take the game by storm. In the first quarter of the game, sports fans could tell that this was going to be a battle and a good game. Players were flying out-of-bounds, saving the ball or shooting it, bringing the hyper-athlet- ic aspect into the game. By the end of the first half, the Chargers led the scoring by six hard- earned points, and some powerful defense. In the second half of the game, the Char- gers kept most of their lead in the scoring, leading to the win against Princeton Tigers, who were unable to catch up to the whirlwind called the Chargers. The Chargers were led in points by soph- omore Julian Gish, with a tally of 15 points. Following him was sophomore Quade Morton with 13 points, junior Kendric Sorgius with six, junior Peyton Howald with four, sopho- more Chase Ridao with three and senior Alex Clark with two. Coach Hunter Elliot stated, "This was a great first win for us. We found a way to win in a game in which we really didn't shoot well. We made plays down the stretch and played solid defense, that is a great learning experience for us. I thought this was really a complete team effort, we had a lot of guys make plays. The keys to me were the fact that we had 10 steals and scored 18 points off turnovers, while on- ly having five turnovers ourselves. When we take care of the ball and get our shots, I like our chances against anybody we play." "Julian Gish led us with 15 points and four rebounds. Quade Morton added 13 points to go along with three steals, plus Kendric, Pey- ton and Braden all having some big plays as well. Braden is tasked with guarding the oth- er team's best guard and I thought he did a great job leading us vocally. I thought defen- sively we did a much better job in the second half, limiting Morris inside and we did a nice job on the glass." "It was great to get our first win and get that monkey off our back. With it being a road con- ference win, it made it that much sweeter. We have high expectations for this team and it was great to see us getting better at the things we are working on. This is just the beginning and we are excited to build off of this one." JUNIOR VARSITY The Charger junior varsity team also played against Princeton on Saturday, losing 50 -28. During the first quarter, of the JV battle, the Chargers seemed to be off their game, only tallying four points for the quarter to Prince- ton's 17, putting them at a big deficit. During the second quarter of the game, the Chargers seemed to pick up their scoring, but were un- able to catch up to the Tigers, leaving the score 28 -19 by half-time. The Chargers start- ed back in the third quarter of the game, but were unable to make the points needed to gain on Princeton. At the fourth quarter, the score Charger sophomore Julian Gish jumps up for the shoot during the Pike Central boys' basketball game at Princeton on Saturday, December 4. Lady Chargers varsity overtakes the Vikings By Matthew Haycraft The Pike Central Lady Chargers basket- ball team faced-off with Barr-Reeve on Fri- day, December 3 on their home court.
