From left: Debra, Derek and Tara Walker offer you reliable, hometown service before, during and af- ter the sale. Weeks until Christmas 2 B-4 Wednesday, December 8, 2021 The Press-Dispatch Shopping Shop Walker's Hometown Store for holiday savings, convenient service By Janice Barniak SG Star-Times Editor editor@sgstartimes.com Walking into Walker's Hometown Store, you might be greeted with the sound of bells, but that's not jingle bells, although they sell a few, that's the phone ringing with apartment complex and sub- division bulk orders, builders getting the appliance specs for a client's remodeled kitchen, and manufacturers setting up warranty service calls through the store, as owner Debra Walker sweet-talks them into using her preferred repair service, so her customers can get someone quick- er and more knowledgeable. That after-purchase service, Walker said, is what sets the business apart. "A big box store doesn't care after they get your money," she said. If something has problems, they forward you to the manufacturer's call center, where you try to convince a person of what's wrong and what's needed." Walker and the family that helps her run the business take care of those is- sues, and the customers deal directly with them. At Christmas, a creative present is to gift a kitchen remodel or bathroom re- model, for example, to a spouse. The partner might allow the other to come in to choose the new appliances, for the home makeover. Whether it's deal- ing with the builder so they cut out the right appliance spaces with the counter, or helping the husband fulfill his hon- ey-do, DIY project, the Walker team is ready to step in, from the fridge down to the garbage disposal, water softeners and heater. They also have items for the less am- bitious gifter and the person looking to stuff a few stockings. Right now, ladies' shirts and accesso- ry items, Melissa and Doug toys, Sas- safrass welcome mats with seasonal in- serts, and mattresses from Serta, Beau- tyrest, Restonic, Americana mattress- es are trending, as are deep freezers, in both upright and chest styles, for hunt- ers and people who like to buy bulk meat. Walker said just because they're a hometown store, doesn't mean they don't have big store financing options. She offers layaway, rent-to-own, lease to own, and a store credit card, where they offer no interest financing for up to five years. "If you walk in my door, and you want the cheapest washer and dryer, I don't try to upsell you," she said of her no- pressure sales tactics. " I say, 'Do what fits your family and your budget.' I don't think there's one brand that's better than another that I sell, because I don't sell anything I don't have confidence in." Walker's is located at 1607 W. Broad- way St. in Princeton and can be reached at 812-385 -5757. Their hours are Mon- day-Friday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Satur- day 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Serta bedding sale is going on right now at Walker's Hometown Store. Shoppers can try out a good selection of mattresses and go home with it the same day. Wi it takes 3 minutes to subscribe to Call 812-354-8500
