Most events will take place in South Shore Park, but the centerpiece of the Frolics – Saturday's parade, slated to step off at 11 a.m. and progress for some two hours – will wInd its way through the streets of the community. Beginning at South Kinnickinnic Avenue and East Linus Street, the march will proceed south to East Nock Street and then east to the South Shore Yacht Club. While the festival has been an annual happening in Bay View, this year's parade will be the first since 2011. Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, instrumental in orchestrating funding necessary to reinstate the parade, has been named the event's marshal. Other local and state political figures will also participate, said Carol Kraco, the transplanted Floridian who is in charge of the festive procession for the fifth time (and the first since 2005). "This year, I have over 75 units," Kraco informed the Post when asked about the parade's size. These include bands from St. Thomas More and Bay View High schools, both male and female roller derby players, area choirs, several clown groups and a collec- MILWAUKEE POST most cars With coupon. "Everything in my life is on hold until about 2 (p.m.) on Saturday afternoon." That's fine with the parade coordinator, however, cognizant as she is that "tradition is big" in Milwaukee and that the festival "has been a big deal for many years" (64 year old, to be exact) in Bay View. The one-time citizen of Stuart, Fla., therefore, wasn't about to refuse when asked in March to return as Frolics parade organizer. Supplementing the parade will be, among other events, Tom Trisco's Neil Young Tribute and a Hawg City Grill fish fry on Friday; Kohl's Wild Theater (Zoological Society of Milwaukee) performances and free games for children both Saturday and Sunday; and music by Vitrolum Republic (classically infused folk), Band X and Cold Sweat & the Brew City Horns. Nightly fireworks displays and a classic car show are on the agenda, as well. The South Shore Frolics runs under the auspices of the Bay View Lions, one of 46,000 Lions Clubs worldwide. Proceeds go to the community's needy and to the Wisconsin Lions Camp. The 2013 festival boasts many sponsors and donors. "We're grateful to every single one of them," Kraco told the Post. Kohl's donates $1.5M to Zoological Society Post Staff MENOMONEE FALLS – Kohl's Corp. announced a $1.5 million donation over three years to the Zoological Society of Milwaukee County on Tuesday . The donation will go toward the Kohl's Wild Theater program at the Milwaukee County Zoo. The money will allow the theater to expand its shows, add new puppets for stage and exhibit performances and make improvements to the stage and theater area. "Kohl's is proud to continue our partnership with the Zoological Society of Milwaukee County to bring lessons about conservation, wildlife and natural animal habitats to life for Wisconsin kids," Kevin Mansell, Kohl's chairman, president and CEO, said in a press release. "The Milwaukee County Zoo is a well-known family destination in our hometown community, and at Kohl's we share their commitment to enriching the lives of area children and families through educational programming like Kohl's Wild Theater." Menomonee Falls-based Kohl's offers has 1,155 stores in 49 states.
