"Movie: Gaia" An injured park ranger's gratitude turns to concern when he notices the father/son survivalists who rescued him from deep in the wild displaying an almost cultist devotion to the forest in this 2021 drama from South Africa. Monique Rockman, Carel Nel and Anthony Oseyemi head the cast for director Jaco Bouwer ("Rage"). "Always Jane" This four-part documentary series from first-time documentarian Jonathan C. Hyde follows the coming-of-age story of Jane Noury, a transgender teen from rural New Jersey who tackles obstacles as she plans to leave the nest upon graduation from high school, supported with love and humor by her family. (ORIGINAL) "Gentefied" The sophomore round of this bilingual dramedy continues the adventures of three Mexican-American cousins chasing the American Dream, even while that same dream threatens the things they hold dear — their grandfather and the family taco shop. Joaquín Cosio, J.J. Soria and Karrie Martin head the cast. (ORIGINAL) The STREAM Scene Where all the top choices can be found in one place! "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings" (Nov. 12) From Marvel Studios comes this newest superhero saga that follows Shang-Chi (Simu Liu), a master of weaponry-based Kung Fu, who must confront the past he thought he left behind when he is drawn into the mysterious Ten Rings organization. (ORIGINAL) 10 • Terre Haute Tribune-Star • November 7 - 13, 2021 BEST MILITARY SERIES "The Phil Silvers Show" (1955- 59, CBS) Also known as "You'll Never Get Rich" and "Sergeant Bilko," this classic sitcom popularized the image of a military man as wheeler-dealer. "McHale's Navy" (1962-66, ABC) Oscar-winning actor Ernest Borgnine came to series television in this comedy, with Tim Conway attaining stardom as Ensign Parker. "Combat!" (1962-67, ABC) A sense of authenticity infused every aspect of this World War II drama, starring Rick Jason and Vic Morrow as chiefs of a platoon. "Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C." (1964- 69, CBS) Jim Nabors scored a huge success by spinning off his "Andy Griffith Show" character into this comedy. "Hogan's Heroes": (1965-71, CBS) Loosely patterned on "Stalag 17," this POW-camp-based sitcom became a classic credit for Bob Crane, Richard Dawson and others. "The Rat Patrol" (1966-68, ABC) Allied commandos (and the many jeeps they drove) in the North Africa of World War II fueled this action drama featuring Hans Gudegast, later known as Eric Braeden during his long run on daytime's "The Young and the Restless." "M*A*S*H" (1972-83, CBS) The Cadillac of military series in the eyes of many, this seriocomic adaptation of the movie (inspired in turn, by a novel) rightfully has its place in the annals of greatest TV shows ever. "Black Sheep Squadron" (1976- 78, NBC) Known in its early stages as "Baa Baa Black Sheep," this series based its stories on the true exploits of World War II Major Gregory "Pappy" Boyington (Robert Conrad) and his Marine pilots. "Call to Glory" (1984-85, ABC) Despite a relatively brief life, this Air Force-family drama earned critical kudos, thanks largely to a cast that included Craig T. Nelson and Elisabeth Shue. "China Beach" (1988-91, ABC) Dana Delany became an Emmy- winning star in this highly creative Vietnam War drama largely told via its female characters. "Tour of Duty" (1987-90, CBS) Various issues facing a U.S. platoon in Vietnam were examined in this gritty drama starring Stephen Caffrey and Terence Knox. "Homefront" (1991-93, ABC) The aftermath of war was depicted via newly returned soldiers in this well-cast small-town drama, with Kyle Chandler included in the ensemble cast. "JAG" (1995-2005, NBC/CBS) Navy lawyers saw plenty of action in and out of courtrooms in this adventure series that handsomely survived early cancellation. "NCIS" (2003-present, CBS) Now moving forward without Mark Harmon, this "JAG" spinoff about Navy investigators has been one of broadcast TV's most reliable ratings-getters. "The Unit" (2006-09, CBS) A strong cast led by Dennis Haysbert and Robert Patrick did much for this David Mamet-created drama about an ultra- secret operations team. "Army Wives" (2007-13, Lifetime) A different take on military life, this drama series was boosted by an excellent cast including Kim Delaney (who also had been on "Tour of Duty") and "JAG" alum Catherine Bell. "The Last Ship" (2014-18, TNT) The commendations received from military organizations by this series about a naval destroyer, which ended its five-season run on a Veterans Day, attested to its realism. "SEAL Team" (2017-present, CBS/Paramount+) David Boreanaz is continuing his long run in series television as the leader of an elite unit dispatched to global hot spots at a moment's notice.
