There were a couple of par- ticularly notable roles, though. He had a recurring role as a handyman named George on the later seasons of "The Facts of Life," and then a few years later, in 1988, he de- buted his most notable post- stardom spot, as Roseanne's boss, Booker, on "Roseanne." Booker's whole thing was that he possessed a sort of charming impishness — a quality that Clooney returned to in many of his more fa- mous later roles. (Booker was a bit like Danny Ocean work- ing in a plastics factory.) Though all small, support- ing gigs, these are relatively predictable entries on a su- perstar's resume. If you're looking for something a bit more surprising, you should check out his early film work. Before he was playing pow- erful, debonair men in Oscar- winning pictures, he was doing small parts in movies such as "Return to Horror High" (1987) and "Return of the Killer Toma- toes" (1988). George Clooney ("The Monu- ments Men," 2014) was just another struggling, unbeliev- ably handsome actor for years before landing his star-making "ER" role. His first role was a classic case of Hollywood nepotism — he appeared (as himself, age seven) in a 1968 episode of his dad's variety show, "The Nick Clooney Show." However, his career didn't really get go- ing in earnest until he was in his 20s.
