A LETTER FROM CUMBERLAND COMMUNITY FOUNDATION MARY M. HOLMES PRESIDENT/CEO Mary Since 1980, Cumberland Community Foundation has helped generous people make a difference in our community. Time and again, we see what passionate donors and volunteers are able to accomplish through our local nonprofit organizations: Our community enjoys an award-winning theater, botanical garden, symphony, military museum, and library system. Young people reach their potential thanks to college scholarships. The hungry are fed. Our history is preserved and shared. Abandoned pets are rescued by loving owners. Homeless individuals are provided shelter. Abused children are able to heal their wounds and receive therapy. More trees are planted and rivers are protected. The list goes on. Cumberland Community Foundation has distributed more than $67 million in grants and scholarships in this community since 1980. We are firm believers that every dollar can make a difference right here in our community. Whether giving to an existing endowment or creating your own legacy, the community foundation makes it possible for donors to support their chosen causes in perpetuity. We created this Guide to Giving to expand awareness of the vital nonprofit sector that we have here in Cumberland County, North Carolina. We encourage you to utilize this resource throughout the coming year. We also invite you to turn to pages 24 and 25 to learn more about creating your own charitable legacy through an endowment that you design for the charitable organizations and causes of your choice.
