How did a small orchard in Colts Neck become a
60,000-square-foot country food market attract-
ing more than 2.5 million visitors annually? In
1974, the Barclay family hired a young produce
stocker named Bill McDonald. Bill's strong work
ethic led him to many opportunities, from being
promoted to the management team at age 20
to eventually saving enough money to buy the
business. He also met a fellow employee named
Linda, who would turn out to be his wife. Bill and
Linda raised four children—Keri, Chris, Mike and
Erin—who all grew up in the family business. On
any given day, you will see the McDonalds work-
ing side by side with staff and greeting customers.
