The Press-Dispatch Wednesday, September 29, 2021 D-1 CHURCH Submit church items: Call: 812-354-8500 Email: news@pressdispatch.net or bring in a hard copy: 820 E. Poplar Street, Petersburg I don't have a fancy or cute way to say hel- lo today. It's Sunday morning and we didn't make it to church because we are both worn out and achy from our booster shot of Pfizer vaccination. It didn't make us sick but just sort of blah. I cer- tainly hope and pray the holdouts that don't trust this shot or think they are indestructi- ble come to the realization that to beat this we need the Lord to help us, but we can do our part in the elimination of chances for this vi- rus to attack. Please get your vaccination and do it because it's the right thing to do and not to take chances on some lottery or other give away program. The number of job vacancies is unreal to say the least. For some reason people are too afraid to work or they are waiting on the un- employment to come rolling back in. What- ever the reason our country is the one doing the suffering. If I was younger and didn't have a retire- ment I would pick and choose from the good jobs that are available today. I'm not asking you to flip burgers or do any other job people of- ten feel is below them, but you know starting out at 16 dollars an hour isn't all that bad and if you get insurance with your new job you are really getting a decent start. I have flapped my gums here when I don't know everyone's cir- cumstances but you hear of people putting in some long weeks because they can't find help to operate their businesses. Let me change gears here because I suppose everyone has their own opinions and they have the right to wad up my article and use it for a fire starter. Now speaking of a fire we have Romans 8:2, when correctly read, is a most blessed passage of Scripture. To get the sense, we should place a dash between the words "Spirit" and "of." Thus it would read: "For the law of the Spirit — of life in Christ Jesus, hath made me free from the law of sin and death." When a sinner places his trust in Christ as Savior he is justified before the bar of God, be- cause Christ's death and righteousness are im- puted to him. This is a judicial matter. But at the same moment, something else happens: the Spirit regenerates and gives new life (Tit. 3:5). This is a law, an inexorable, un- changeable law. The sinner who sincerely plac- es his trust in Christ as Savior is given life by the Holy Spirit. It is always so; it is never oth- erwise. I John 5:12 says: "He that hath the Son hath life…." John 3:36 says that "He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life" and Col. 3:3 declares that the believer's life is "hid with Christ in God." Thus the Apostle could say: "The law of the Spirit, [that of] life in Christ, hath made me free from the law of sin and death." Adam for- There is a campaign of terror against Chris- tians in many parts of the world. The chaos and overthrow of A fghanistan shows the true heart of Muslims, leading up to how they have mocked America and beheaded many Chris- tians. It just doesn't seem to include religious liberty. In Egypt, Muslims have burned Chris- tian churches, tortured and killed believers in Jesus Christ. One Christian tells of being beaten and then with a box cutter, cut off his ear. When he was interviewed, his ear was still dripping blood. The Islamic Brotherhood plans to reinstate sharia law in many countries when they are in power. In Pakistan, Humaira Khokhar was wounded by a gunshot when he tried to stop the desecration of a Christian cemetery by Muslim mobs. An esti- mated 200 to 250 million Christians are being per- secuted for their Chris- tian faith. It is happening almost daily in countries like Iran, Iraq and India. The persecution in- cludes torture, enslave- ment, rape, imprison- ment and forcible sepa- ration of children from parents. Our new American "Bank" – China is one of the worst offenders. We should all re- member this when we buy their furniture, use their telephones, shampoo and soap. There are two ways to re- spond to adversity, discour- agement or trust. The prob- lem with giving in to discour- agement is that it only makes things worse. For with it may come bitterness, anger, jeal- ousy, revenge and so forth. We may even try to escape through drugs or alcohol. But do any of these solve the prob- lems? No. God has a better way—the way of trust. Sometimes He may show us that we were in the wrong. When that is the case, we need to confess it, re- pent and seek His forgiveness. Sometimes, however, we can only accept what is happening and ask God to help us endure it and triumph over it. If at any time you have no church to attend, feel free to join us for services. Your pres- ence will be appreciated and I'm sure you will feel the bless- ing of God. May God bless each and ev- eryone.
