B-6 Wednesday, September 29, 2021 The Press-Dispatch MS boys' tennis finishes with a win By Matthew Haycraft The Charger middle school boys' tennis team played Vin- cennes Lincoln on Thursday, September 23, defeating them 5 -1 in varsity. In the varsity singles, JJ Bellmore defeated Lincoln 8 - 1, Eli Keeker won 8 -5, Llinkyn Knust was defeated 4-8 and Tyler Collins won 8 -6. In the varsity doubles, Kade Benner and Cain Russell defeated Lin- coln 8 -3. During the second-round matches, in singles, Jackson Brewster lost out to Lincoln 0 - 6 and Blake Houchin lost 0 -6. In the second round doubles matches, Caisan Russell and Joshua Smith were defeated by a score of 1-6. Head Coach Phil Knust commented on the season say- ing, "We finished our season on a winning note beating Vin- cennes Lincoln." "As a team, we played well this year, getting better with each match and practice. We were shorted a few matches due to quarantine, so we did not get to play as many match- es as we normally would. We have a young team again, with only two eighth graders mov- ing up to high school next year." "What our players need to remember and carry out to get better is simply putting in time on the courts. They need to put time in outside of our regular practice schedule and season schedule. This is sim- ply how you get better, getting out on the courts and putting time in."
