The Press-Dispatch Wednesday, September 22, 2021 D-3 is the I.D., which many believe is called in the Bible, the Mark of the Beast. The Bible talks hundreds of times about the signs of the end time; the fires, floods, hurricanes, tornadoes, earth- quakes, the threat to Isra- el and great advancement in knowledge. The worldwide computer system is a good example of the explosion of knowledge. In 1984, there were 1,000 Internet devices, in 1992, one million and in 2006, there were one billion. Today there are 21.5 billion devices. Jesus talked about many signs of the end of the world as we read it in Matthew 24. Everyone seems to be search- ing for and seeking answers. Some wonder if there will ever be peace in the Middle East. The Islamic Brotherhood that is taking over Egypt and oth- er Arab countries, target A f- ghans. Jesus tells us ma- ny things to prepare for and bring hope. May God help us, in our character and conduct, to ex- hibit "the power of godliness," the spiritual power that comes from putting Christ first in all things. RAMBLINGS Continued from page 1 PAWS WEEK PAWS WEEK Pet of the KIK'R Bark softly and carry a big stick. This week, PAWS is fea- turing a handsome black lab named Kik'r, who was surrendered by his own- er as he was moving out of state. This fun, loving boy needs a family to love him. He is very gregarious, smart, loves to catch fris- bees and retrieve sticks. He has short, smooth, black fur and is about a year old. He has all his shots and is ready for adop- tion. Call 812-354-9894 to adopt Kik'r. letin board with all the notes I have on it. I must be one of those people COVID left with a fog. I still get things done, but from time to time I catch myself not finishing what I start. I've casually mentioned this to others I know have had the virus and they too seem to have trouble concentrating on their tasks. Our grandkids can mess up a house in a 100th of the time it takes grandma and I to spruce it up. But you have to clean it up at least once a week. I was 67 years old when we had our first grandbaby so my nerves did have to adjust, now most of the time all the noise goes in one ear and out the other. We got our outdoor entry doors cleaned up and painted and we were glad at the end of the day Friday to have them all done because we were re- ally tired. If I had to work a full day I would be laid out on the floor. I think maybe my age is catching up with me. I played at the Lions Club Winslow Fest from 10 o'clock to 11 o'clock. I don't know about the listeners but I had a good time. I know I'm not the best singer in the world but my music felt good Satur- day morning. I have learned not to expect so much and just have fun doing what you can because people will have good time if you are having a good time. Several of the regulars were out of church Sunday morning to attend a wedding in Lafay- ette. We still had a few people in Sunday school and we talk- ed about the Golden Rule. It is something which must be practiced and used daily. It doesn't apply only to those who love you but even to your enemies. You must do it first and not wait on anyone to ap- ply it to you. It is a good rule and Jesus told His Apostles that the Old testament law was based on this rule. Worship service covered three men found in 3 John and they were Gaius who might have been one of the Cae- sars. He was well liked and helped the church prosper and stood up for the church. The next fellow was Demetri- us and he was another man who did what was needed to the best of his ability, but he was always available when called upon. He was no strang- er to the truth and he and Gai- us worked together well. The last fellow Diotrephes and he was jealous and vain. He thought he was more import- ant and was afraid to allow John to visit their church be- cause he thought his position would be done with. He bad mouthed John to his church and argued with Demetrius and Gaius because they were for the visit. In church there is no room for big me's and little you's. There is not one person more important than the other and when it comes to the message from God it's the message and not the mes- senger which makes it so im- portant. I can hear God tell- ing us right now to practice the Golden Rule and also be a blessing as well. Until next week, stay safe and stay blessed beyond your wildest expectations. He questioned their conversation, then He opened up the scriptures from Mo- ses to the time with them. A f- ter a meal with them, He de- parted and the two men stat- ed, "did not our hearts burn within us? " Does the Word of God cre- ate in you a zeal and a passion for more of God and obedi- ence to His great command- ment, go ye into the world, touch the lost, make disciples of them, and baptize them in the Holy Ghost. If you do not have that burn- ing desire, ask God for forgive- ness, dig into His Word, pray and fast, then you will begin to feel that passion, that zeal and your heart burning to be about the Master's business. Lift up in prayer your pres- ident, U.S. Congress, your state and local government of- ficials, as the Bible states that we might live a peaceful life. May your week be blessed and your journey's safe. George Bruce, Jr., Pastor OAKLAND CITY FIRST PENTECOST Hwy. 64 East Sunday morning service 9:30 a.m. with children's Sun- day school during the minis- try of the Word; Wednesday and Sunday evening services are at 6 p.m. All services are CDT (Gibson Co. times). We are grateful for the two individuals we baptized and we appreciated the rain hold- ing off. Why be baptized? For one thing, it is an act of obedience. Jesus himself told us to be baptized. As far as your need, for me, it was like the marriage ceremony. A public acknowledgement that you have made a vow to the Lord. This seems to be a more binding experience in your relationship with the Fa- ther through Jesus. Repenting of your sins and inviting Jesus into your heart is a more pri- vate affair. Many are guilty of doing it to mend a natural relationship, then once mended, the Lord is forgotten. This very public action of humbling one's self to be baptized, in front of wit- nesses, is a promise. When we walk away from God, we have basically lied to Him. And, ev- eryone knows it. Ananias and Sapphira lied to the Spirit of God.....the results were not good and very final. Ron Vickers, Pastor Elaine Young, Reporter, 812-749 -1122 (leave a mes- sage). "Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you" (I Peter 5:7, NIV ). Do you struggle with wor- ry, stress or fear? The ques- tion comes to mind, "What am I going to do? " Have you ev- er had that thought? A seem- ing crisis looms in your financ- es or your job, you received a bad report about your health, or an important relationship seems to be crumbling right before your eyes. The pres- sure mounts, and your prob- lem-solving mode kicks in. All day and night, you con- template the solution, wonder- ing if there even is one. Con- cern moves to worry and wor- ry morphs into all-out fear. Be- fore you know it, panic sets in and you're in total torment. Believer in the Lord, this is not how you are meant to live. God's plan has always been that you live in perfect peace and ultimately find de- liverance from trials. Consid- er these scriptures: "Do not be anxious about anything" (Philippians 4:6, NIV ), "Don't let your hearts be troubled" ( John 14:1), "Don't worry" (Matthew 6:31). And that's just the beginning. Yet many of us still act as if it's an option, as if we're free to worry if we want to. But we're not. Wor- rying is a sin. It's one of those things the Word of God direct- ly commands us to not do. When you put your cares in God's hands, He puts His peace in your heart.
