The Press-Dispatch Wednesday, September 22, 2021 D-1 CHURCH Submit church items: Call: 812-354-8500 Email: news@pressdispatch.net or bring in a hard copy: 820 E. Poplar Street, Petersburg Welcome to another week of Lowell's ram- bling thoughts. Our new septic field was fin- ished last week and so far so good on its op- eration. I understand the principle of the way it is supposed to operate and if it does as well as it should it will be in service even after I'm gone from this old world. I planted grass seed over all the new area and on the places the equipment roughedup. I thought the amount we paid to have this done was extremely rea- sonable and just. I moved up in the amount of weight I ex- ercise with each morning I feel like working out. I have been committed to my exercis- es each day and I really do feel better after a good workout. I use to exercise in my earli- er years but gave it up. This time I have been conscious of the fact it is good for me. I am gaining strength and I can do more with the new strength. We sure had trouble getting my new print- er working and installed. I think I knew what needed to be done but my sons are more knowl- edgeable of the different terms in the instal- lation CD. Oh well it's good to be able to print from my computer again. This sinus thing going around has people concerned COVID has struck. I have been doc- toring this sinus stuff for about a week now and that is all. I suppose both affiliations act the same so does everyone have the virus. I can't answer this, but I still ask you all to be vacci- nated and to wear your mask. According to the news, people over the age of 60should get a booster especially if they don't want to get sick. I will get mine. My desk is starting to look like one big bul- It is an interesting fact that the words "god- ly" and "godliness" are not found in Paul's writ- ings until we come to the Pastoral Epistles, the very epistles that have so much to say about evil days and evil surroundings. In the epistles to Timothy we read about the "perilous times" with which this present dis- pensation of grace will be brought to a close, while in the letter to Titus we read of "unruly and vain talkers and deceivers," of "liars… evil beasts… lazy gluttons," whom Satan would use to neutralize the work and witness of God's servants. To Timothy and Titus, these young men of God, the Apostle had much to say about godli- ness, and we must not forget that Paul's words to them are also God's Word to us, believers in Christ, who indeed appear to be living in the closing days of the dispensation of grace, sur- rounded by a steadily-rising tide of evil and an ever-growing number of wicked, godless men. We do not mean to imply that the Apostle does not deal with the various phases of the Christian life in his other epistles, but rather that here in the Pastoral Epistles he wages a Every place I go today people are asking me what I believe about the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. I believe He is coming but no preacher, priest, teacher, or theologian knows the time. Newsweek, Time and other maga- zines have written about the Second Coming of Christ. I know there have been many false predictions about the time of Christ's return. It doesn't matter how many false alarms there have been. Jesus will return. We are all march- ing toward that momentous day. Billy Graham, America's foremost Christian leader, who preached to 215 million people, preached about the Coming of Christ in almost every Crusade. The last Crusade sermon Billy Graham preached was the New York Crusade on June 25, 2005. The title was "When Christ Comes Again." Most preachers preached on His coming until they became religiously elite and theological liberal. Almost every world event is a fulfillment of prophesies given to us concerning the Second Coming of Christ. We see it in the Middle East peace process, global- ization, Islam, same sex marriage, the soon to come global identification system for every person on earth, or the Muslim Brotherhood at work in America. Jesus was a gentle and com- passionate person. When He came into the world, there were few hospitals, few plac- es for refuge for the poor, few homes for orphans. There were no hospitals to treat the mentally ill, no shelters for the homeless. In comparison to today, it was a cruel world. Christ changed all that. He healed the sick, fed the hun- gry and opened the eyes of the blind. He commanded His dis- ciples, "Love your neighbor as yourself" (Matthew 19:19), and taught them to observe what we have come to know as the Golden Rule: "In ev- erything do unto others what you would have them do unto you" (Matthew 7:12). Wherev- er true Christianity has gone, His followers have performed acts of kindness, love and gen- tleness. If at any time you have no church to attend, feel free to join us for services. Your pres- ence will be appreciated and I'm sure you will feel the bless- ing of God. Jerry "Tuffy" Blackwell, Pastor Sharon Kendall, Reporter WINSLOW G.B. CHURCH 600 E.
