Neil Armstrong and pilot Buzz Al- drin made history when they became the first men to walk on the moon. Televised in 1969, the broadcast was watched by nearly 650 million viewers at the time. Now, with the advanced technology we have at our disposal today, Netflix is offering subscribers a chance to catch yet another historic mission to space when "Countdown: Inspiration4 Mission to Space" premieres Monday, Sept. 6. Split into five parts, the first two airing on the streamer Sept. 6, "Countdown" is the first Netflix documentary of its kind to cover a mission to space in near-real-time. It cov- ers the events leading up to, during and immediately fol- lowing the SpaceX Inspiration4 flight, a flight entirely com- posed of civilians. On the Crew Dragon space- craft flight are billionaire busi- nessman, commander and pi- lot Jared Isaacman; data engi- neer Chris Sembroski; child- hood cancer survivor Hayley Arceneaux; and geoscientist, science communicator and art- ist Sian Proctor. (Sembroski and Proctor were St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital contest winners, while Arce- neaux was chosen by Isaac- man himself from among the hospital staff.) The first two episodes of the series, which comes from "The Last Dance" production team and director Jason Hehir, focus on the rigorous training each of the four crew members has been undergoing, showing each detail as they prepare to launch off their home planet on Sept. 15. The following episodes will, of course, center on the launch itself, as well as the aftermath of their return home.
