Poplar Street, Petersburg "What do you attribute the lawlessness to that currently plagues the nations? " It is a product of the mystery of iniquity, which is Satan's plan to undermine all God-giv- en authority. He has been effectively working behind the scenes since the days of the Apostle Paul to bring the world to a state of chaos, with a specific purpose in mind (II Thes. 2:1-12). The false religions that Satan introduced throughout the centuries all stand in direct op- position to the true Church, where righteous- ness is extolled as a virtue. Contrariwise, in the name of religion, which Karl Marx called "the opiate of the people," terrorists shed the blood of innocent victims to promote their un- godly ideology. Sadly, we are only witnessing the tip of the iceberg. Make no mistake, the primary target of these extreme jihadists is Christians. Simply watch their training clips, Our culture is no friend of the Gospel. As we move farther into the 21st Century, there are constantly new attacks on Christianity. These attacks come from a liberal elite me- dia, internet, politicians, ACLU and even from within the church. Our family values, the sa- credness of human life and standards of mo- rality are all threatened. In education, govern- ment and entertainment, the favorite pastime, is bashing the church and those who still be- lieve the Bible. The Christian church is still the most pow- erful source of love, compassion and service to mankind. Whenever there is a disaster like 9/11, Katrina or the earthquake in Haiti, Christians usually arrive first to help and stay when others leave. The Catholic and Protes- tant churches are always on the front lines to assist those in need. We see governments and entertainers pledge money, but it often arrives late and is spent on red tape. Many struggle while waiting for help to come from secular or- ganizations and govern- ments. It is sad to see our government divid- ing America. The church was nev- er intended to be a social agency, but to proclaim the Gospel and make disciples. As a part of Christian service, they often give the most and serve the longest. Christians care and respond to needs regard- less of race, creed or location. When we hear churches whose message is social justice, it usually indicates they have on- ly half of the message of our Lord. First and foremost, Jesus came to seek and to save the lost. His first concern is the eternal part of man The church page is made possible by the following firms and businesses: Amber Manor Care Center Petersburg — 812-354-3001 Benner & Co. Sadler Welcome to another week with me to ramble and babble about the silly things I do and see. As a minister of God I'm suppose to set an ex- ample worthy of following, but you know I too often fail to be that example. Only thing any of us can do is seek forgiveness and try to let God help us do better. There are lots of different things to cause us to be less than we should be. One of the great- est is anger because anger brings on words spoken that are seldom meant, but they sure hurt others. Revenge is another area which causes us to be lower than we should be be- cause all we think of is getting even which on- ly brings on more vengeance. It never stops unless we ask God to help. There are many more but in my life these seem to be the cause of problem areas of my life. I can't explain it but these areas were better controlled by me and God, but since all the tur- moil of our world it has become so much eas- ier to just fly off the handle and make a com- plete fool of myself. I hope and pray God will intervene in all of our lives and help us make sense of things. Enough melancholy, the eye doctor told my wife her eyes are healthy and free of major problems. That is good news for her because the condition she has can affect her eyes. Be- ing off of the one medication hasn't helped a great deal, but there has been some improve- ment so there is hope. We keep hearing more and more about our vaccinations for the virus, but we hear very little about our children who have become ex- tremely vulnerable to it. I'm like all other par- ents and grandparents who are concerned CHURCH CHURCH Notes Notes Notes Baptist Baptist Baptist Assembly of God RIVER OF LIFE 342 E. We love because he first loved us. If anyone says, "I love God" and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen —(I John 4:19, ESV ). God's greatest command- ments are to love him and to love one another. Loving one another is only possible when we love like God. When we love out of our humanity, sin gets in the way. When we real- ize how great God's love is for us, how underserving, unend- ing and unconditional, we are humbled because we didn't de- serve it. May we always try to represent God to the world. It's not always easy, but we should strive to love like he does and he will give us the grace to do just that. We are remembering in prayer those who are ill, those who have lost loved ones and most of all our country and world in this troubled time. We invite you to worship with us. "Then the King rejected the advice of the elders" (I Chron- icles 10 :13). Tragically, many people are the victims of their own bad decisions. Faced with the choices every day, they turn their backs on what is right or what is best and decide in- stead on what is wrong or what will bring them harm. Only af- terward do they realize that bad decisions always result in bad consequences. King Rehaboam stubbornly rejected the wise advice of his nation's elders and instead fol- lowed those who told him on- ly what he wanted to hear. As a result conflict broke out the and the nation divided. The Bi- ble warns, "Whatever a man sows that he will also reap" (Gal. 6:7). Life is filled with decisions, some minor, but some life changing. How will you make them? The most important thing I can tell you is this: Seek God's will in every deci- sion. Pray. Turn to the Scrip- tures. Seek the advice of God- ly friends. Ask the Holy Spir- it to guide you. God loves you, and His way is always best.
