But only if we gain a one-year commitment from a N.C. licensed physician to volunteer to oversee the clinical services of our local pregnancy center. This crucial position only requires three or four hours per month, and 90% of the services can be done on-line. Town residents who are interested in increasing their knowledge about local government operations can apply now at https://forms.gle/5ZUSznqpzAqAKKa97 The start date is September 16 with classes meeting on Thursdays for the following six weeks. For further information about the Citizens Academy, contact Doug Barrick at dbarrick@ rutherfordton.net This free, interactive 7-week program is open to all community members 16 years old or older who are Town residents or work or own a business or property in the Town of Rutherfordton. Class size is limited to 10 participants to ensure a safe environment designed around COVID-19 guidelines. The program is designed to provide a fun, informative learning experience for citizens who want to know how the Town operates. The curriculum enables participants to develop leadership capabilities and build strong relationships, and encourage citizen involvement to effect positive change in the community. Classes are offered on Thursday nights from 6-8pm under the following itinerary: Session 1 — Introduction to Town Hall- September 16; Session 2 — Rutherfordton Police Department- September 23; Session 3 — Public Works Department- September 30; Session 4 — Norris Library - October 7; Session 5 — Rutherford Town Rising & Finance Dept - October 14; Session 6 — Rutherfordton Fire & Rescue- October 21; Session 7 —Bringing it All Together- October 28. Graduation — Town Council Meeting – November 3. Classes will be designed to meet in person and will follow the necessary guidelines to provide a safe environment.
