Poplar Street, Petersburg "…the house of God…is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth" (I Timothy 3:15). The word "pillar" should remind every Bi- ble student of the pillar that God gave Israel to guide them through the wilderness to the promised land (Nehemiah 9:12). A fter the peo- ple of Israel crossed the Red Sea, they needed a guide. They had been slaves for 400 years, and didn't have a clue as to where they were go- ing! It's not like Pharaoh let his slaves take ex- ploratory vacations. So God had to lead them every step of the way with the pillar. Once Moses had written the Book of the Law, however, the pillar disappeared. Of A few weeks ago many of our finest and brightest students graduated from our colleg- es and universities. In a time of high unem- ployment and political unrest, they are seek- ing a career that will be fulfilling and finan- cially rewarding. Many of them lost something of great value during their college days. They found that teaching was often at odds with their faith and the values they had been taught. They were told that America is not great, sec- ularism is good and Christianity is outdated and politically incorrect. Those in secular and state institutions found professors hostile in their references to God. According to one poll, our teens leave home with a strong faith. The survey found 95 per- cent believe in God. According to this survey 91 percent believe in heaven and 75 percent believe in hell. In the next few years, while in college, all they believe will be attacked and questioned. Our young people deserve to know the truth. They must be taught in the home and rein- forced by a Bible teach- ing church. Christian colleges and universities sometimes cost more but it may be a parent's best investment. There are some things in life worth sacrifice on both the part of the parent and the student. Don't let liberal, anti-God pro- fessors destroy what you have worked hard to instill in your children. A fter more than 65 years in full time minis- try I have witnessed many changes. Some are good but the liberal, anti-God teachings and secularism spreading across America is not good. If your week has been going a little rough may it settle down for you and you have a better rest of your week. Last week started out with some aggrava- tion as I couldn't find a tire like the one I cut down, when I was run off the road. So I found a couple of new tires from Big O tires which was close enough to what I had on our CRV. It cost me $250 to replace a pair of tires for being run off the road. Insurance would have helped if I could name the individual who was responsi- ble, but there is no way I could tell who it was. Also I have crossed center line myself before and no one turned me in so why should I be turning someone else in for making a mistake. I finally told the contractor who was sup- posed to do our septic job, that I was going to go with another contractor because I have waited almost a year for them to do some- thing. They do good work, but there is a limit to which you must wait. The new contractor was very nice and seemed to be on the ball about what I needed and they were recommended by several friends. Hopefully everything will work out just fine. My wife and I collected another doctor to add to our list as she went to a new derma- tologist to see if he can help her with some blisters. He started talking about her medi- cations because a biopsy she had years ago led him to believe that she is allergic to one of them. He looked over her list of medications and asked her to not take one of them for two weeks. What she sees in two weeks will tell her if it is that medicine or not. "Then the King rejected the advice of the elders" (I Chroni- cles 10 :13). Tragically, many people are the victims of their own bad de- cisions. Faced with the choices every day, they turn their backs on what is right or what is best and decide instead on what is wrong or what will bring them harm. Only afterward do they realize that bad decisions al- ways result in bad consequenc- es. King Rehaboam stubbornly rejected the wise advice of his nation's elders and instead fol- lowed those who told him only what he wanted to hear. As a re- sult, conflict broke out and the nation was divided. The Bible warns, "Whatever a man sows that he will also reap" (Gal. 6:7). Life is filled with deci- sions, some minor, but some life changing. How will you make them? The most import- ant thing I can tell you is this: Seek God's will in every deci- sion. Pray. Turn to the Scrip- tures. Seek the advice of Godly friends. Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you. God loves you, and His way is always best.
