Given the public's interest in the 1st coin in the series --a $1 Bechtler commemorative coin developed by the 225th Anniversary Committee in 2012, Rutherford Town Revitalization Board of Directors voted to continue the series to commemorate the importance of the Bechlter history to the Town and community. The proceeds from the sale of these coins will uses to help fund the RTR coordinated July 4th celebration and to continue in the organization's long time facade grants to downtown property owners. The $5 Bechtler commemorative coin was developed with the assistance of Norman Jenkins of Norm's Coin Shop, Forest City. Mr. Jenkins and his wife Betty are experts on Bechtler coins and have a large personal collection of coins. They generously donated a $1 gold coin to the Town of Rutherfordton during the 225th Anniversary year. As an affiliate of the N.C. Main Street Center, Rutherford Town Revitalization (RTR) is a non-profit organization with a volunteer board of directors who work collaboratively with the Town and other groups to stimulate economic development within the context of historic preservation, using a comprehensive approach to downtown revitalization developed by the National Trust for Historic Preservation and utilized by the National Trust Main Street Center to assist communities across the country.
