He was the son to the late Charlie and Clara Harmon Godfrey and a native of Rutherford County. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Godfrey and two sisters, Virl Davis and Opal Johnson. Rev. Godfrey is survived by his wife, Helen Melton Godfrey; two daughters, Terry Smith (John) and Leslie Godfrey Clay (Jim); five grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. The funeral Service was held August 7, 2021 at Race Path Baptist Church in Ellenboro with Reverend Randall Cooper, Reverend Shane Adkins, Reverend Wesley Smith and Reverend Eugene Passmore officiat- ing. JERRY DEAN BROOKS Dr. Jerry Dean Brooks, 61, of Shelby, passed away on August 2, 2021. Jerry is preceded in death by his two parents, Willie Dee and Lallage Myrtle Brooks and one grandchild. Wade is survived by his wife, Pansy Poston Carpenter; one brother, James Carpenter; one son, Jerry Carpenter, Jr., a daughter, Kathy Hill; and three grandchildren, five great grandchildren and three great- great grandchildren. Born in Blacksburg, she was the widow of Everette C. Moore Sr. and the daughter of the late George and Bertha Brooks, Derrick and Angela Brooks, and Joni Hamrick; seven grandchildren; four sis- ters, Sheila and David Grigg; his twin sister, Terry James and Eddie Walter, Veronica and Mike Walker, and Melanie Smith. The funeral was held at Emmanuel Baptist Church August 7, 2021. The grave- side service was held immedi- ately afterwards at New Hope Baptist Church in Earl, NC. RUBY LOWERY WYATT Ruby Lowery Wyatt of Ellenboro, NC, passed away on Tuesday, August 3, 2021. She was born in Henrietta, NC in 1933, the daughter of Perry Daniel Lowery and Dora Revels Lowery. A native of Rutherford County all her life, she was married to the late Gerald Franklin Wyatt. Ruby is survived by her daughters, Deborah Wyatt Funderburk (Brent) of Starkville, MS and Mealie Wyatt Macmurphy (Chuck) of Charlotte, NC. She was preceded in death by a son, Rickey Gerald Wyatt. Also surviving are three grandchildren. She was predeceased by brothers Virgil, James, Vernon, Ray, Joe Dean, and Ralph "Bud", and sisters Layla Hardin, Vada Seay, and twin sister Ruth Webb. She also had a half-brother, Claude Lowery. The family held a private service, with interment at Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery. She was preceded in death by husband; parents; two sons, Elbert Sonny Moore Sr. and Everette C. Moore Jr.; four sisters, Elsie Mae "Boots" Carroll, Mary Sue Hamrick, Shirley Roark, and Gladys Dover; and three brothers, Odell Dover, Frank Dover, and Floyd Deaton Dover. Funeral services were held August 7, 2021 at Lighthouse Baptist Church with Rev. Grady Gregory and Mr. Todd Mode officiating. Interment fol- lowed in the Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery. SHIRLEY BEAVER GRIER Shirley Beaver Grier, 78, of Shelby, passed away on Thursday, August 5, 2021 . Born in Cleveland County, on January 21, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Summie Alonzo Beaver, Sr. and Annie Edmondson Beaver. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Avery Grier; brother, S.A. Beaver, Jr. and sister, Betty Carter. Survivors include a son, Tim Grier and wife, Crystal of Shelby; a daughter, Tammy Falls and husband, Rick of Lawndale; and nine grandchil- dren and ten great-grandchil- dren.
