Dixon Blvd. Shelby, NC 704-487-5811 Westview Baptist Church will be celebrating its 60th Anniversary on Sunday, August 8, 10:30 a.m. The church was orga- nized in a meeting held at Graham Elementary School in Shelby on August 13, 1961, with a membership of 54. Charter members were received until November 1, 1961 with a total of 105. For six months, Rev. C.O. Greene, Associational Missionary, and Dr. A.B. Wood, one of the members, served as supply pastors without pay until Rev. Forrest Teague began as the first full-time pastor on February 18, 1962. Gene Ellis served as the first music director for over ten years. Five and a half acres were purchased at 500 Melody Lane in Shelby. The first worship service at that site was February 7, 1965. In 1969 the church opened its weekday Daycare which continues as a ministry today. The current Fellowship Hall was added in 1973, and a new sanctuary and classrooms were dedicated on June 24, 1984. Mrs. Charles Raines (Louise) and Mrs. Sam Greer (Iris), both charter and current members, remember the enthusiasm as the church grew and a sanctuary was built. There were lots of young families with children who grew up in the church and participated in activities and outreach. The Westview Chapel is currently being used for a contemporary service, Ignite. This service, currently at 9:00 a.m., will move to 11:00 a.m. on August 22. The children's ministry will also move to 11:00 a.m. on that date. Adventure Awaits is filled with exciting music, fun skits, and Bible stories. From its beginning, Westview has been a mission-minded church supporting and sponsoring various missions and trips in the United States, Honduras, West Africa, Brazil, Romania, Spain, India, Cambodia, and Vietnam. Many have been blessed through this outreach. You are invited to help the church celebrate God's faithfulness and blessings during these sixty years. The Rev.
