Mon-Fri 7AM - 6PM Saturday 7AM - 5PM Sunday 10AM - 4PM Hwy. 41 N., Princeton at Lyles Station Rd. 812-385-2641 Memmer's GET MOW FOR YOUR MONEY HOURS JERRELL "JERRY" LEE GRUBB The man. The myth. The legend. Jerry was born on Sep- tember 27, 1958, and passed away on July 20, 2021. He loved boating at Ken- tucky Lake, playing blackjack, winning at blackjack, cooking up some Grubb Spuds and his famous BBQ chicken, and keeping his yard pristine. He enjoyed vacationing with his family and loved a good man- go squirrel while watching the waves roll in. He was the type of guy that would invite 500 of his closest friends over for a fireworks show and treat them to a big jug of his famous Swamp Juice. He dedicated his career to IP&L for 43 years, where he was a welder and IBEW union steward, and most recently a maintenance supervisor. He enjoyed feeding his crew with a breakfast of homemade pan- cakes and all the fixings as often as he could. Through- out his career, he made some wonderful friends who were as dear to him as his family members. He was involved in the com- munity as a member of Pike Masonic Lodge 121, a previ- ous member of the Petersburg Jaycees, a Pike Central Band Booster for 12 years, a volun- teer bus driver for the band, and a Pike County School Board member for 16 years. He loved his surviving wife of 42 years, Kathie Grubb (Barnett); his two surviv- ing daughters, Melissa Dale (Steve Dale) and Jenny Pat- rick (Chaze Patrick); and his late son, J.R. Grubb. He also lovingly left behind his moth- er, Alene Grubb; two sisters, Linda Miley (Rick Miley) and Donna Arnold (Doug Arnold); and his nieces and nephews, Stephanie Johnson (Brent, Evan and Sarah Johnson) and Dustin Arnold (Amanda and Calvin Arnold). He was preceded in death by his father, Jerrell R. Grubb. Marshall Matt Dillon; Moe, Larry and Curly; and John Be- lushi were his T V heroes, but Jerry "Pops" was the Ultimate Hero to his grandchildren – Andrew Johnson, Cassius Pat- rick, A.J. Dale, Caroline Dale, Katie Dale and Gavin Patrick. Pops delighted in spoiling his grandkids, buying them gifts and treats, taking them on boat rides at Kentucky Lake, building sandcastles with his specialized tools at Daytona Beach, teasing them with spe- cial nicknames and jokes, and making sure to sneak each and every one of them a dum- dum sucker prior to their first birthday. If you were fortunate enough to know Jerry during his time on earth, you'd know that he was hard-working, strong-willed and as stub- born as Sister Sara's mules. His intelligence, wit and hu- mor were unparalleled, and he loved those closest to him fiercely, and protected and cared for them with all he had. He wasn't just a myth or a leg- end. He was a magnificent and outstanding man that will live in our jokes, our stories and our hearts forever. Funeral services were at 2 p.m. on Monday, July 26, 2021, at Harris Funeral Home. Visitation was from 10 a.m.-1 p.m., with a Masonic service beginning at 1 p.m., on Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Somebody's Place or the Pike Central Band Boosters in Jer- ry's memory. O.D. Harris Funeral Home was entrusted with his care. For those who had the plea- sure of knowing Thomas Eu- gene Hensler, Sr., their lives grew a little less fun and more dim on July 20, 2021, when Tom passed following a long illness, joining his beloved wife, Ginny, in heaven. Tom, AK A Chicken Man, was born August 27, 1946, in East Saint Louis, Ill., to Wil- bur E. and Margaret ( Jurash- en) Hensler. Lucky in love, he married his high school sweetheart, Ginny, on November 25, 1964. Shortly after, he joined the U.S. Army, where he was sta- tioned throughout the USA, and deployed to both South Korea and Vietnam. For decades after leaving the Army, he worked for the Southern Railway/Norfolk Southern, mostly as an engi- neer. He became active in the United Transportation Union in the 1980s, thriving on zeal- ously representing his union brethren and fighting on their behalf. His role with the UTU led him to become a lobby- ist, where he spent over 20 lobbying for union members throughout Indiana. Bless- ed with the gift of gab, he ex- celled as a lobbyist and rose through the ranks, eventu- ally becoming state director for Indiana U.T.U. For sever- al years, he worked in India- napolis during the week, but always returned to Ginny and Pike County on the weekends. He retired in August 2009, planning a long future of Flor- ida beach time, casino trips and traveling with Ginny, but it wasn't meant to be, as Ginny passed unexpectedly in 2010. While he remained a smidge lost without Ginny, he became active in the Pike County com- munity. He was a proud and ac- tive member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 3587, serving several roles, includ- ing quartermaster, vice-com- mander and eventually com- mander. The role he relished the most, though, was serv- ing as a member of the volun- teer Honor Guard. In the Hon- or Guard, he traveled to sev- eral cemeteries for Memorial Day ceremonies and partici- pated in both military honors and the final salute for veter- ans who had passed. He also volunteered for the American Cancer Society, driving can- cer patients to chemothera- py and other treatments, and served on the board of direc- tors for both the United Way and PAWS, Inc., where he spent many hours of service. He loved making family, friends and strangers alike laugh and smile. His twinkling eyes, sharp wit and laughter will be missed by his family and all who knew him. A union leader, a veteran, a father, a grandfather, a Sagamore of the Wabash and a world class storyteller, his tall tales and antics were shared through- out his adopted state of Indi- ana and throughout much of the Midwest. He is survived by his griev- ing family, his children, Chris- tine (Donald) Schumacher, of Evansville, Thomas E. (Am- ber) Hensler, Jr., of Peters- burg, and Pamela (Kyle At- kinson) Hensler, of Blooming- ton; his four grandchildren, Britney and Zach Majors, of Evansville, and Faryn and Myra Hensler, of Petersburg; his three sisters, Terri ( Joe) Otte, of Jackson, Mo., Rita (Steve) Pilgrim, of Labadie, Mo., and Eveline Smith, of O'Fallon, Ill.; and one broth- er, Edward J. ( Julie) Hensler, of Okawville, Ill. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia (Davis) Hensler; and his parents, Wil- ber E. Hensler and Margaret J. ( Jurashen) Hensler. A public memorial celebra- tion will be from noon-3 p.m. on Saturday, August 7, 2021, at the 3587 Coleman-Stewart VFW Post, 1202 E. Main St., Petersburg. The family asks that do- nations in Tom's memory be provided to PAWS, Inc., 4224 North Meridian Road, Peters- burg, IN 47567. In addition, the family encourages anyone who was blessed to know Tom or to have heard one of his sto- ries to raise a toast to him, per- haps with his beloved Scotch and water, and celebrate a life well lived. O.D. Harris Funeral Home is entrusted with his care. On- line condolences may be made at odharrisfuneralhome.com.
