Between camp, going on holidays and playdates, summer vacation can feel like endless planning and shuffling from activity to activity. Fortunately, you can use these tips and tricks to cut down on your stress and enjoy quality family time together. Create a schedule. Jot down family activities and commitments on a large calendar and keep it on the fridge so everyone can see what's coming up. This will help give the kids a sense of security and routine that's missing during the summer months. Just be flexible, and make sure to schedule plen- ty of free time to relax and enjoy quiet time with a book. Cut down kitchen time. Don't like having to choose between healthy and quick, easy meals? Look for simple, nutritious meal options that take much of the work out of cooking. For easy lunch- es and dinners you'll feel good about serving the kids, try Mann's Nourish Bowls. Ready in just a couple of minutes in your microwave, the bowls were developed by chefs and feature superfood veggies like broccoli, sweet potato and kale. They work as great side dishes to complete a fast and healthy meal. Plan special dates. Get- ting out of the house regu- larly doesn't mean having to use up the family travel budget. Give the kids an excuse to use up their ener- gy and get some fresh air by scheduling some fun, free activities. Go to the park, spend time in the library and visit your local commu- nity swimming pool. Keep the kids on top of chores and other duties by present- ing these activities as rewards for a job well done. Enjoy a stress-free summer with the kids 6B • WASHINGTON COUNTY POST • SUNDAY, JULY 25, 2021 GMTODAY.COM YOUR GUIDE TO It's time for the West Bend Park & Rec activities to be announced! Looking for ways to recharge and escape stress this summer? Get away from it all and "Get On Board" for a relaxing sum- mer on the water. With most Americans (78%) citing COVID-19 as a significant source of stress in their lives according to a recent Harris poll, millions of peo- ple are seeking solace out- doors. One of the best ways to restore your mental health is to spend time with family and friends on the water. Boating and fishing have become ideal options to enjoy the outdoors and recreate responsibly. Stud- ies show being on the water promotes wellness by improving emotional health, relaxation and cre- ativity. Boating triggers a restful state of mind and provides an opportunity to get outside of daily rou- tines, allowing our brains to reset. "People from all walks of life are recognizing that boating and fishing not only offer restorative health and wellness benefits but being on a boat is a 'vacation on demand' that you can enjoy close to home," said Ellen Bradley, Discover Boating Senior Vice President. "Boating uniquely provides the freedom to explore and escape the stress on land, while allowing you to relax and connect with loved ones in a way that can only be experienced on the water." Getting started in boat- ing and fishing is more accessible than you think. In fact, more than 100 mil- lion Americans go boating each year, according to the National Marine Manufac- turers Association. Whether you already own a boat, you're just getting started or simply want to test out the boating lifestyle, Discov- er Boating offers easy ways to get on the water and expe- rience the restorative power of boating and fishing. Find your dream boat. Chart your own course to boat ownership by visiting D i s c o v e r B o a t i n g . c o m , where you'll find a boat find- er and loan calculator tool to help determine your budget and identify the different types of boats that fit your lifestyle and interests. Join a boat club. Find a boat club near you to access a variety of boats. You'll pay a monthly fee and be able to book your time on the water online. Most boat clubs take care of docking, cleaning, maintenance and boat training courses. Rent or share a boat. Rental options are available on most waterways and pro- vide hourly, daily or weekly access to a variety of boat types. Another rental option is peer-to-peer boat rentals that connect you with the boat owner, gather outing details and then hit the water. Most arrangements for boat sharing are made on an app or via computer, minimizing personal con- tact and eliminating the need to enter an office. Go fish. There are thou- sands of bodies of water where you can cast a line. Find places to fish and boat near you, courtesy of Take MeFishing.org, a dedicated fishing resource where you can also purchase your fish- ing license on the site, check out how-to guides and more. Visit DiscoverBoating. com for resources, tips and how-to's for getting on the water, boat shopping, safety and more. Planning to "Get On Board" this sum- mer?
