Gilbert was born in Joplin, Missouri on May 31, 1946. He was the son of the late Alton Charles Yocum and wife Ruth Alsup Yocum. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers Michael Charles Yocum and Johnnie Alton Yocum. Gilbert is survived by his wife, Sherry Williams Yocum; two daughters, Danielle Yocum Jernigan and husband, Chris of Snow Hill, NC, and Donna Jo Yocum of Charlotte, NC; and a son, Gilbert Alton Yocum and wife, Lora of Reno, NV; five grandchildren; and sis- ter, Mona Boerngen and husband, Jim. Mr. Yoocum served our country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War and then in the U.S. Air Force. A Time of Remembrance was held July 10, 2021 at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory with ELLA MAE HUNT HILLMAN Mrs. Ella Mae Hunt Hillman, 91, of Kingstown, NC passed away on Friday, July 2, 2021. She was born on October 15, 1929 in Rutherford County, NC to the late Lovella Stafford Abraham and the late Grady Charles Hunt. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Braswell Hillman; a son, James Hillman; three grandsons; a great granddaughter; five sisters, Rosa Lee Brooks, Lilly Pearl Addison, Louise Surratt, Hattie Thurman and Naomi Banks; and three brothers; Joseph Hunt, Robert Hunt and Charles Hunt. She leaves to cherish her memory, her five sons, Donald Hillman (Denise) of Kingstown, Ronald Hillman (Mary) of Shelby, Paul Hillman (Priscilla) of Shelby, Rev. Albert Hillman of Shelby, Richard Hillman (Laura) of Ellenboro, NC; five daughters, Diane Stroud of Kingstown, Mildred Surratt of Hickory, NC, Sherleen McKinney of Shelby, Peggy Briscoe (Leroy) of Kingstown, Alberta Marble (Thomas) of Kingstown; thirty-six grandchildren; six- ty-one great grandchildren; twelve great-great grandchil- dren; a brother, Tommy Hunt (Tillie) of Kingstown; and two sisters, Ruby Surratt of Shelby, Chinetta Abraham of Hickory, NC. The funeral service for Mrs. Hillman was held on July 10, 2021 at Palmer Grove Baptist Church. Burial took place at the church cemetery. CATHERINE JOAN BURROUGHS GORE Catherine Joan Burroughs Gore, 87, of Kings Mountain, passed away on Wednesday, July 7, 2021. A native of Cleveland County, she was the daugh- ter of the late Jett and Ada Seagrazes Burroughs. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harley Gore; son, Mark Harmon; broth- ers, Joe and Jack Burroughs; sisters, Myra Watterson, Mauline Burroughs, and Betty Burroughs Herndon. She is survived by her son, Norman Harmon; daughter, Lisa Harmon Ryals and hus- band, Jerry of Texas; step- children, Keith Gore and wife, Terry of GA, Carson Gore of Kings Mountain, and Kay Gore Lee of GA; seven grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren. A graveside service was held July 11, 2021, in Mountain Rest Cemetery of Kings Mountain with the Rev. Brian Taule officiating.
