Contact "Operation Cool-Off"! Hot weather is dangerous for older adults and anyone with heart disease, diabetes, or a history of stroke. It's especially dangerous when there's not an adequate cooling system in the home. As in years past, the Council on Aging/Neal Center will again be giving away a limited number of electric box fans during the summer months. To qualify for a box fan: -Applicants must be a Cleveland County resident, age 60 and over, or 18 and older and disabled. -Have no air conditioning in their home. -Have a home situation where a threat to health exists. If you happen to have a surplus of toilet paper, paper towels or tissues, the Neal Center would love to have it to give out. To give a paper-product donation, please call Mary Hamrick at 704/482-3488. A time will be set up for you to bring your items to the center. Our current operating hours are Monday-Thursday, 8:30am-4:00pm and Friday, 8:30am-12 Noon. Paper-product donations must be in packaging that's clean, great condition, and never been opened.
