B-6 Wednesday, June 16, 2021 The Press-Dispatch Methodist Pentecostal Nazarene Presbyterian Wesleyan MINUTES Continued from page 4 24:36). Those that knew the difference between the Rap- ture and the Second Coming were also able to point out that the date of the former is just as unsearchable in Scripture as that of the latter. Surely there has to be a way to sim- ilarly benefit from the failure of the Mayan calendar disas- ter as well. I wonder if what we are looking for might be found in Isaiah 41:21-24. There, God Almighty thunders forth a challenge to all the false gods of the nations, daring them to "produce your cause," that is, to produce "strong reasons" why anyone should believe they are God. If you are won- dering what kind of reasons He had in mind, the Lord went on to say, "let them bring them forth, and shew us what shall happen… "Shew the things that are to come hereafter, that we may know that ye are gods…." This challenge went un- answered in Isaiah's day, of course, for only the God of the Bible knows the future, some- thing He has proved over and over again in Scripture, and something that the failed predictions of others serve to magnify. With all this in mind, why not put together a short men- tal list of fulfilled Bible proph- ecies, and mark Isaiah 41 in your Bible? That way when the subject of the Mayan cal- endar comes up the day after the December 21 deadline (as you know it will), you can capi- talize on the biggest non-story of the year by reminding peo- ple that the challenge of Isaiah 41 has still gone unanswered, and that the God of the Bible is still the only God worthy of worship. Let's determine to be ready to offer "a word in sea- son" (Isa. 50 :4) to all who are disillusioned by the gods of the nations, and are in desper- ate need of the God who sent His Son to die for their sins. PAWS WEEK PAWS WEEK Pet of the PRINCE "We find beauty in the most incomprehensible places, and the otherwise homely faces. It is our gift to see beyond the dirt, terror, pain, sadness and defeat, and find the true soul that lives within. We are the hope for the hope- less"—PAWS. This week, PAWS is fea- turing a very handsome fellow named Prince, who is as happy as the day is long and loves to play with his canine companions in the dog yard at PAWS. Prince doesn't know a stranger. He is very so- ciable and loving Shep- herd mix, and has beau- tiful cream-colored fur, accented in black around his eyes, and on his back. Prince is a year and a half old and would be a great addition to any family. PAWS is also overrun with kittens in every size and color. If you could give a kitten a good home, we would love to see you. To adopt Prince or any of the other animals at PAWS, call 812-354-9894. The old house is in terrible shape and needs taken down, but I just can't get the peace in my heart to do so. I will, but I'll have to get into the correct frame of mind to do so. We had a Lions Club meet- ing Thursday evening at Ran- dy's and we only had five take part in it. What has happened to com- munity awareness? There are many things we could do for our community, but we can't do as much as we could do if more people would answer the call to join us. If you are an organization who wants to help let Jill at the Chamber of Commerce know. She can let others know. It's not when you are needed, it is YOU ARE NEEDED. Our community has really been clean and well taken care of, but it still needs people to be willing to step up and take an active interest. Our roads have been invaded by con- struction work, but we have been assured it will be worth whatever inconvenience we may encounter. I suppose I'm in a help your fellowman state of mind. If you can you should pitch in. My family seems to always have something for Mom and Dad to do for them and if you can help your kids you should. We babysit often as our kids work and I heard it said by a man about as old as me, that we ought to help them out be- cause it takes both parents to eke out a living. At church Sunday we talked about LOVE and loving one an- other. It seems as though this subject can be taught forever. The big thing this week was loving your enemies because everyone loves the ones who love them back. But to love someone you know doesn't care for you takes God's Spir- it in your heart and the cor- rect passion to love someone you know will probably never return your love. Our preacher spoke about stepping out of the boat to stand on your faith in Jesus. You have faith so don't allow the world to take it from you. Peter did well until he saw the waves and they overcame his faith. Jesus however didn't scold him. He just extended His hand and told Peter that his faith was weak at the time. I feel Peter was shown a les- son about having faith in Je- sus. How many lessons do we all need? Well about time to tell you, don't wait on someone to help and don't get choosy. Just help and be a blessing to the ones God gives you daily. My soul thirsts for you, my flesh yearns for you in a dry and weary land where there is no water. Thus, I have seen you in the sanctuary. To see Your power and Glory. Be- cause your loving kindness is better than life my lips will praise you. So, I will Bless you as long as I live, I will lift up my hands in your name. My Soul is satisfied with marrow and fatness and my mouth of- fers praises with joyful lips" (Psalm 63:1-5). God Bless. Lunch and an afternoon full of fun Bible lessons, crafts games, music and more are in- cluded. It is important to dress in clothes that can get wet, be- cause the games will involve water! We are returning to many of our regular activities. We cur- rently meet in person for wor- ship service at 10 :30 a.m. on Sunday. The messages are al- so live on Facebook, or you can watch the message later. Sunday school for all ages re- opens at 9:30 a.m. Location of the classes has changed. We will help you get to the proper classroom. We have also started a new Sunday School class called "The Journey." Jodi Correll is teach- ing. This is not an age-based class. It is a discipleship class designed to help people know Scripture better, and become more like Jesus. Youth Group meets at 5 p.m. on Sunday. It is our goal for our youth group to be service ori- ented. The teens will do a work project at someone's house or other ministry, and have a brief devotional. Families are welcome take part in the service project, but the parents are responsible for their children. The nursery will remain closed for now. We don't believe it is a good idea to allow children of different families to play to- gether at this time. If your child needs to be tak- en out of the service, the nurs- ery can always be used as a place to change your child, or as a cry room. We use every other pew, and ask that you stay socially dis- tanced from those in your pew who you did not come with. We make every effort to ster- ilize our facility between ser- vices. There is a basket as you enter the sanctuary for tithes and offerings. You may also give online through petersburgfmc. org. There is a link to our website on our Facebook page also, and we often put announcements and information on both pages. Peace and joy in the Lord. "Skip, the blocked high- ways that don't lead to God's presence. Instead, trust Je- sus as Savior, for 'Whoever believes in the Son has eter- nal life' ( John 3:36). And for those who already believe in Him, rest in the way He's pro- vided'"—Dave Branon. Why is it vital to know that only Jesus can save us? Why are we prone to try to add to what it takes to be wel- comed into His family? "Dear God, I want to trust You for eternity. Thank you for the salvation found in Je- sus alone"—Amen. Sunday, June 20, we will be honoring all men for Father's Day. Dad A dad is someone who loves you no matter what you do. A dad is patient, helpful and strong. He is there by your side when things go wrong. He never looks for praises, he's never one to boast, he just goes on quietly working for those he loves the most. My best memory to recall is the gift of your presence, the greatest gift of all. He was al- ways my pillar when I knew I'd fall, always my anchor, so strong and tall. If I could write a story, it would be the great- est ever told, I'd write about my daddy and the love he al- ways showed. "Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it" (Proverbs 22:6, NIV ). Happy Father's Day. Roy Stilwell, Pastor Pam Lemond, Reporter
