B-4 Wednesday, June 16, 2021 The Press-Dispatch CHURCH Submit church items: Call: 812-354-8500 Email: news@pressdispatch.net or bring in a hard copy: 820 E. Poplar Street, Petersburg Depending on when your monthly Search- light arrives, the Mayan calendar deadline for the end of the world has either come and gone, or else it is looming in the imminent future. All the hoopla that surrounded this gloomy prediction got me to wondering if there might not be some way that Christians could capi- talize on yet another failed non-Biblical pro- phetic expectation. A fter all, last year when the Rapture failed to take place on the date designated by a popular radio Bible teacher, God's people were able to take advantage of this by pointing out that, when it comes to the Second Coming of Christ, the Bible says that "of that day and hour knoweth no man" (Matt. Our values are what we consider valuable. This definition makes values absolute to follow- ers of Christ. Politicians have chosen the word to confuse Christians. I recall how Bill Clinton, after his sex scandal, started using the words family values in every speech. It makes this val- uable word confusing to young people in par- ticular. Even good organizations use the word and sometimes their ideas are on shaky ground. It is shocking to see the way politicians throw the word values around while they are being in- vestigated for political corruption or a sex scan- dal. The word value is used as shorthand for tra- ditional standards of conduct and morality de- rived from our Judeo-Christian heritage. Value was originally a verb: to value is some- thing we do. In its noun form it refers to worth, such as the value of a coin, or a political system. Our values are what we consider valuable. Jesus explains what is valuable when He asks, "What can a man give in exchange for his soul? " The most valuable thing on earth is to have a per- sonal relationship with Jesus Christ. This rela- tionship provides love for others, hope for eternity, joy in living and an inner peace beyond descrip- tion. All that we call val- ues become null and void if Christ is left out of our lives. Values are worth defining and passing on to the next generation. Value is a great word that's respected, and we must not surrender it to a liberal media, inter- net, or to corrupt politicians. The great disap- pointment for many good people is to hear the word constantly used and then learn those we believed in had no values after a political elec- tion. Words spoken by a minister, educator, or politician mean nothing if they do not have a lifestyle of integrity, honesty and faith in God. It has been an on again off again week of rain and then pretty only back to rain again. We should never complain because what comes next may be worse than before. So suck it up and make the most of it. One day last week it was a constant drizzle but very warm so the drizzle felt good. We had planned to mow but the drizzle only offered wet grass which usually looks terrible if you mow it wet. My grandson and I laid out our new timbers for a driveway edging. We only mitered and laid them out. We attached them together Saturday morning after doing some weed eating and getting as much as possible of a broken off limb out of a tree. My neighbor and I tried to fill in a hole in her yard where she had trouble mowing be- cause it would try to hang up her mower. Ze- ro-turn mowers are great but if you get one wheel turning and the other in a hole they will turn around on you and get stuck even worse. I think we done a decent job of fixing the hole. People who claim to be bored just don't see what could be done and who they may help out in this old world. I have heard people pray about wanting someone they could help and don't ever realize that our Lord has placed ma- ny in front of you and you continue to search for someone to help. This just doesn't make sense to me. Finally got to mow my property where my mother lived until she had to go to the nursing home. I had to trim the trees so I could mow under and around them. Like I was trying to tell you before, I don't have time for boredom. Upcoming Events Otwell community-wide church service, Sunday, June 27 Jefferson Twp.
