Submitted photo MILLS MAKES SECOND TEAM ALL-PAC Four Lady Chargers make PAC Honorable Mention By Matt Haycraft This was a big year for the Lady Chargers' softball team, with astounding catches, breathtaking hits and power- ful pitches; taking them from regular season to sectional champs. On the top this season was Pike Central freshman Brai- ley Mills, who was recog- nized as Second Team All- PAC as an outfielder. This was not an easy feat, with the PAC growing this year to in- clude Tecumseh, North Posey, Gibson Southern, Boonville, South Spencer, Southridge, Forest Park, Tell City, Wash- ington, Mt. Vernon, Princeton and Heritage Hills. Included in these are sectional champi- ons with girls that are consis- tently hitting over .600, with some of the best pitching in Indiana, not to mention repeat state champion teams. Mills, Lady Chargers' cen- ter fielder, was voted fourth out of thirteen teams. She fin- ished the year with a batting avg of .439, and an astounding on-base, plus slugging percent of 1.045. Mills had 36 hits, 27 scored runs, 10 walks and only six strikeouts for the season. It is no wonder that she made All-Conference with a near- ly perfect fielding percent of .962. Mills is looking at a bright and astonishing future if she continues down this path for the next three years. Besides Mills' recogni- tion, four other Lady Char- gers earned PAC Honorable Mention this year. Lexie On- yett, Kenzie Powell, Mallory Hickey and Chloe Williams helped make this a major year for Pike Central softball. Freshman Lexie Onyett, though her primary position is catching, earned honor- able mention for third base. Onyett's batting average was .344, with 31 hits and one home run. She lead the team in triples and RBIs, with 30 RBIs, 23 runs and seven sto- len bases. In the field, she had 106 chances, with a field- ing percentage of .896. Head Coach Stephanie Dawson had this to say about Onyett, "She could get a sac bunt down for us or hit for power. She's a huge threat in our line up and on the bases." Kenzie Powell, Lady Char- ger senior second baseman, also brought in PAC Honor- able Mention this year. She had 67 chances at second base and a fielding percent- age of .940, with four errors and two double plays. Her batting average was .344 per- cent with 23 hits, 22 scored runs and one home run. Pow- ell had 13 RBIs and had an excellent eye for pitch selec- tion, walking 13 times this season. Junior Mallory Hickey, first baseman for the Char- gers, earned the All-PAC Honorable Mention with 154 chances and only one er- ror the whole year. Hickey's fielding percent was .994 for this season. She attained a batting average of .312 with 24 hits, one home run and 17 RBIs, and scored 13 runs for the Chargers this year. Regarding Hickey, Coach Dawson said, "She had some amazing saves at first, dig- ging balls out of the dirt." Charger pitcher sopho- more Chloe Williams took home the PAC Honorable Mention in pitching this year. She had an astounding 161 strikeouts, a 1.79 ER A and only allowed 38 runs this whole season. Leaving 120 runners stranded on bases, Charger opponents had a .217 batting average against her this season. Coach Dawson said, "She bared down for us with run- ners on base and shut many teams down many innings." Williams had an injury that kept her from batting a ma- jority of the season. She still managed a .273 batting aver- age and a home run the open- ing night of sectional. Her fielding percent was .880, with 50 chances in the field. Brailey Mills, freshman center fielder for the Lady Chargers softball team, made Second Team All-Conference as an outfielder.
