(Rain may have had some part to play in this defeat, but the varsity girls' team gave it their all). Whether the game would be played was in jeopardy un- til it started and even during the game, as rain threatened during most of the game. The regional was a rematch with the Pioneers. The Lady Chargers lost to Boonville 2- 0 on Monday, April 26. With Pike Central at 18 -8 and Boon- ville 17-6, the two teams came into the game with similar re- cords. Winning this game was in reach, and the Pike Central Lady Chargers didn't hold back. Starting off strong, Char- ger pitcher sophomore Chloe Williams struck out Boonville senior Kaitlyn Knox. Then Boonville's Becca Campbell popped out in foul territory to Charger catcher senior Xia Stafford, generating the sec- ond out. The teams remained like this, locked at zero, until the top of the third inning when things took a turn. Boonville senior Madison Hill, on a hard ground ball to Pike Central's Fiscus, made it to first and advanced to sec- ond on a passed ball, before Madison Hill grounded out to Charger pitcher Chloe Wil- liams. With two outs and two on base, Boon- ville's Randi Jo Pryor stepped up to the plate, hit a hard ground ball and reached sec- ond on an error, paving the way for Knox and Campbell to score two more runs. Williams stamped out the Boonville rally by striking out Ariel Thomasson, leaving the score at 3-0 in Boonville's fa- vor. Boonville went on to score three more runs in the fourth inning, and continued to hold the Lady Chargers scoreless until the fifth inning. Trailing 6 -0 through the top of the fifth, it was the Char- gers' turn to take up the bat and make a charge. Williams led off with a walk. A fter a fly out by Sharp, Hallie Bailey hit a line drive to right fielder Knox, making it to first, as Delaney Welch, pinch running for Williams, made it to third. Welch went on to score the first run for Pike Central on a pop fly by ju- nior Mallory Hickey that was mishandled. The Lady Char- gers then had a strikeout and a fly out, ending the inning. Boonville went on to score four more runs, with two sin- gles and a double in the top of the sixth. With the score set at 10 -1, and Pike Central's fans in the stands and in the dug- out cheering them on through the rain, the Chargers dug in for a late rally.
