Brainerd Dispatch • May 30 - June 5, 2021 •19 By Raye Smith TV Media WHAT'S NEW ON NETFLIX "Dancing Queens" (2021) Get up and grab your dancing shoes, because the new Swedish film "Dancing Queens" is coming to Netflix on Thursday, June 3. Dylan Pettersson, played by Molly Nutley ("Alena," 2015), is a 23-year-old girl from a small island in the Swed - ish archipelago. Trying to reach her big dreams of being a professional dancer, Dylan ends up missing an important audition and falls into a role as a primary dancer in a drag show. The catch — Dylan and the choreographer, Victor, played by Fredrik Quiñones in his film debut, have to keep the fact that she's a girl under wraps. This exciting, fun and heartwarming film comes from director Helena Bergström, who also wrote the movie alongside Denize Karabuda ("Pokerface," 2008), and will star Marie Göran - zon ("Day and Night," 2004), Mattias Nordkvist ("White Wall"), Claes Malmberg ("Saltön"), Chris- topher Wollter ("Quicksand"), Emil Almén ("The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo," 2009), Razmus Nyström ("Land of the Free," 2020), André Christenson ("Advokaten"), Rakel Wärmländer ("Sommaren med släkten") and Max Ulveson in his on-screen debut. "The Parisian Agency: Exclu - sive Properties" Stroll right into the picturesque properties of Paris with "The Pari- sian Agency: Exclusive Properties" when it lands on Netflix on Mon- day, May 31. The first season of this new Netflix original series follows the Kretzes, a family of success- ful real estate agents working in France's luxury real estate market. Fans of Netflix's "Selling Sunset" will love this move across the pond for even more luxury homes and beautiful properties. Featuring dream destinations, castles and town homes right near the Eiffel Tower, this unscripted series will take viewers and buyers through the multimillion-Euro estates in Paris and the surrounding area with Olivier and Sandrine Kretz and their sons, Martin, Valentin and Louis. WHAT'S NEW ON HULU "Changing the Game" (2019) Kick off Pride month with "Chang- ing the Game," debuting on Hulu on Tuesday, June 1. From director and writer Michael Barnett ("Be- coming Bulletproof," 2014) and co-writers Amanda C. Griffin ("All Creatures Here Below," 2018) and Michael Mahaffie ("The Mars Gen- eration," 2017), this documentary explores the stories of transgender teen athletes as they compete at the top of their fields while facing the boundaries of discrimination. The athletes featured are wrestler Mack Beggs, skier Sarah Rose Huckman and track star Andraya Yearwood. The award-winning doc- umentary aims to highlight these individual stories and dig deep into the culture war swirling around trans individuals in America and especially trans athletes as they fight against discriminatory laws and regulations. Heart-wrenching and raw, this documentary's release to the streaming platform will make an impactful start to June Pride month. WHAT'S NEW ON PRIME "Dom" Buckle up for Amazon Prime Video's new Brazilian crime drama, "Dom," set to premiere Friday, June 4, on the streamer. Inspired by a true story, the series centers around Pedro Dom (Gabriel Leone, "Dark Days"), a young man from Rio de Janeiro's middle class. The eight- episode season will see his story begin as a teenager experimenting with cocaine and through to his promotion to the head of a danger- ous crime organization that gained significant attention in Brazil's tab- loids in the early 2000s. Along with his father, Victor (Flávio Tolezani, "The Other Side of Paradise"), who has dedicated his life to fighting crime, the story will follow the pair as they go through life on opposite sides of the law. From director Breno Silveira ("One Against All"), this new series promises drama, crime and lots of action. WHAT'S NEW ON DISNEY+ "Gabby Duran & The Unsit- tables" Take a trip out of this world with "Gabby Duran & The Unsittables," when Season 2 debuts on Disney+ on Friday, June 4. This fun children's sci-fi series begins with Gabby Duran (Kylie Cantrall, "Raven's Home") moving to Havensburg, Colorado, to escape the shadow of her successful family. Spirited and unapologetic, Gabby gets her chance to make her own way when Principal Swift, played by Nathan Lovejoy ("The Code"), hires her to babysit an unruly gang of important extraterrestrial children who have been posing on earth as human children. The story follows their adventures and missteps as Gabby works to keep them safe and keep their identities secret. From creators Mike Alber ("Kirby Buckets") and Gabe Snyder ("The Thundermans"), the main cast is rounded out by Maxwell Acee Don- ovan ("Good Kids," 2016), Callan Farris ("Kings," 2017), Coco Christo ("We Take the Low Road," 2019) and Valery M. Ortiz ("Switched at Birth"). WHAT'S NEW ON PARAMOUNT+ "Why Women Kill" Season 2 Brace yourself for the drama, be- cause Season 2 of "Why Women Kill" premieres Thursday, June 3, on Paramount+. This dark comedy series from creator Marc Cherry ("Desperate Housewives") chron- icles the lives of three women, all from different decades who have lived in the same mansion in Pasa- dena, California, as they deal with heartbreak, betrayal, infidelity and murder. Season 1 starred Ginnifer Goodwin ("Once Upon a Time") as Beth Ann Stanton in 1963, Lucy Liu ("Charlie's Angels," 2000) as Simone Grove in 1984, and Kirby Howell-Baptiste ("The Good Place") as Taylor Harding in 2019. The first season spanned 10 hilari- ously dark episodes that all clocked in around 45 minutes, and Season 2 will follow suit, but with a fresh cast and plenty of new faces. Characters are still being revealed, but Season 2 will star Allison Tolman ("Fargo"), Nick Frost ("Shaun of the Dead," 2004), Lana Parrilla ("Once Upon a Time"), B.K. Cannon ("Switched at Birth"), Jordane Christie ("Atlan- ta"), Matthew Daddario ("Shad- owhunters") and Veronica Falcón ("Queen of the South"). WHAT'S NEW ON DISCOVERY+ "Yellowstone: Super Volca- noes" (2021) Get ready to experience "Yellow- stone: Super Volcanoes," coming to discovery+ on Thursday, June 3. This new documentary from Wildflame productions was made in collabo- ration with the U.K.'s Channel 5 and discovery+, and will make its international debut exclusively on Discovery's streamer. Shot in 4K, the film delves deep into the incred- ible, powerful threat presented by a super volcano that lies seven miles beneath the earth in America's Yellowstone National Park. The 90-minute film is jam-packed with the science, history and potential consequences of super volcano eruptions, combined with stunning original footage from Yellowstone National Park. Be sure not to miss this extraordinary new documen- tary experience. WHAT'S NEW ON APPLE TV+ "Lisey's Story" Lock your doors and draw your curtains, because the chilling new miniseries "Lisey's Story" comes to Apple TV+ on Friday, June 4. The series, based on the 2006 novel by Stephen King of the same name, has King on the project as creator, executive producer and writer. The story, called a "deeply personal thriller" (per Apple TV+), follows Lisey Landon (Julianne Moore, "The Kids are All Right," 2010) in the years following the death of her husband, Scott (Clive Owen, "Closer," 2004), a famous novelist. Lisey is forced to face memories from her marriage to Scott that she'd blocked out of her mind when faced with a series of unsettling events and a crazed stalker who is obsessed with her late husband's work. Beside King, the series in- cludes executive producers Moore, J.J. Abrams ("Lost"), Ben Stephen- son ("West World"), Juan de Dios Larraín and Pablo Larraín (both of whom worked on 2016s "Jackie," and the latter who serves as series director). This eight-episode TV experience also stars Jennifer Jason Leigh ("The Hateful Eight," 2015), Joan Allen ("Room," 2015), Dane DeHaan ("Kill Your Darlings," 2013), Ron Cephas Jones ("This Is Us") and Sung Kang ("The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift," 2006).
