May 2021 Page 3 Staff reports The Goshen News GOSHEN — Doug McAvoy, an accomplished newspaper executive, has been appointed publisher of The Goshen News. McAvoy replaces Tricia Johnston, who was recently named West Virginia publisher of three newspapers for CNHI, the parent company of The Goshen News. It will be a return to Elkhart County for McAvoy. He served as director of audience and digital media for The Elkhart Truth for 6 ½ years, from 2007 to 2014. "Rarely does a pub- lisher have the opportunity to lead a hometown publication that is near and dear to their heart," said McAvoy. "Having deep roots in Elkhart County, I am thrilled to return home where lasting relationships and Michiana partnerships remain." McAvoy has an extensive newspaper management back- ground, including general manager, publisher and direc- tor of digital media, marketing and circulation with vari- ous media companies. Most recently he served as regional director of audience develop- ment for Adams Publishing Group in Maryland, Virginia, Delaware, Washington, D.C., and Pennsylvania. "Goshen has a wide range of residents that make up this community and celebrate life together," he said. "I look forward to getting involved in community planning and events, and engaging with residents and community lead- ers to help keep Goshen a city where people come to work, live and play." McAvoy said he's pleased to join an experienced staff at The Goshen News, and togeth- er, they will continue audience growth with trustworthy local news content online and in print, and marketing solutions for the paper's advertisers and other community partners. He said the paper will expand its focus on digital content and audience engage- ment through newsletters, con- tests and niche publications. "Online readers will have the ability to experience local news and Goshen life 24/7 from anywhere in the world," he added. McAvoy's wife Nancy is a native of the Elkhart County town of Wakarusa. They have three married daughters and seven grandchildren. The couple has purchased a home in Goshen. McAvoy returns to roots, appointed publisher of The Goshen News "Rarely does a publisher have the opportunity to lead a hometown publica- tion that is near and dear to their heart." — Doug McAvoy, editor, The Goshen News McAvoy Andrews named publisher, editor of The Indiana Lawyer Staff reports Indianapolis Business Journal IBJ Media named veteran edi- tor and journalist Greg Andrews as the publisher and editor of The Indiana Lawyer, the first step in what CEO Nate Feltman called a major push to boost the profile and readership of the statewide legal publica- tion. Andrews, 55, a former editor of the Indianapolis Business Journal, takes over imme- diately from Dave Stafford, who had led the publication as editor for three years. Andrews moved into the role of investiga- tive reporter and columnist at IBJ in January and will continue doing work for the publication as a contributing writer. Feltman, who co-owns IBJ Media, said he's confident that under Andrews' leadership, The Indiana Lawyer "will become an even more essential read for the legal community and beyond. We have the opportunity to become much more relevant both in cen- tral Indiana and statewide." The Lawyer, launched in 1990, covers the Indiana legal community, courts and judicial opinions in an every-other- week newspaper and daily at TheIndianaLawyer.com and through daily email newsletters. The Lawyer has about 5,500 sub- scribers, a number that has been growing since it instituted a pay- wall last year that limits the num- ber of stories readers can access without a subscription. Feltman said the top priority for The Indiana Lawyer team will be analyzing its coverage to deter- mine how to best serve subscrib- ers. He said The Lawyer will seek input "from an advisory council of attorneys to get thoughts and ideas" about coverage. Also on the priority list, Feltman said, "is looking at how we up our game on the digital front" and finding ways to use events to highlight trends and progress in the legal community, especially in terms of diversity. "Greg has a long history of positive progress with multiple publications in the world of jour- nalism," including eight years as IBJ editor, the last of which culminated with a subscription record, Feltman said. "And Greg has a lot of ideas about how we can grow the relevancy and the interest of The Lawyer on a statewide basis. That combina- tion, I believe, has an opportu- nity to really propel The Indiana Lawyer's growth." As editor and publisher of The Lawyer, Andrews will oversee both the editorial and business sides of the publication. Feltman previously served as publisher while Stafford was editor. Stafford, who is leaving IBJ Media, joined The Indiana Lawyer nine years ago and was named editor three years ago. Feltman said that under Stafford's leadership, The Lawyer "excelled at covering big stories, from the Curtis Hill scandal to a shooting involving two judges outside the downtown White Castle."
