"This is always our first stop on the island." That's what our customers tell us again and again. While "Cheese Shop" says part of it, with over a hundred varieties of cheeses to choose from, "Gourmet Shop" is a better fit. Here you will find a large selection of olive oils, crackers, jams and jellies, fresh roasted coffee beans, barbecue sauces, fresh pastas, and the list goes on. But that still doesn't say it all. If you need a creative gift basket or cheese tray, that's their specialty. With twenty-plus years of experience, stop in to see for yourself. It's all about having fun—life is short, why not stop in and indulge your senses? Open 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM daily. ▲ Seafood Market OFF THE HOOK At Viking Village, 20th Street and Bayview Avenue Barnegat Light, (609) 361-8900 www.VikingOffTheHook.com Please refer to our ad on page 44 and our listing on page 53. u Home Port, "Back On its feet again" Continued from page 66 greenery. Above them, the osprey have returned and are nesting. On April 17, one nest had four eggs (normally there are only three) and we're waiting to see them hatch. The Friends of Island Beach State Park have set up a camera so you can observe this wonder of nature up close. Use this website to watch 24/7: www.friendsofislandbeach.org/ospreycam. The abundance of migrating fish at Island Beach State Park has beckoned fishermen back. Even the hours here have been extended. The dock on Barnegat Bay, just south of the Route 37 bridge, from which many families caught the famous blueclaw crabs for years, will be back as soon as contracts to reconstruct are awarded. Farther north, in Point Pleasant Beach, Jenkinson's Aquarium with its abundant sea life is open for the enjoyment of every age group. The restaurants and bars on the boardwalk at Jenkinson's and Martell's are again entertaining the twenty-one and over crowds. The rides there are also operational. As you drive over the Route 35 bridge and Manasquan River into Brielle, the Sand Bar still offers a beautiful view of the marina and river. If you continue to and across the historic Glimmer Glass Bridge into Manasquan, you can travel to two of its landmarks, Leggetts Sand Bar and the Osprey Inn. At the Manasquan Inlet, Carlson's Corner and the Riverside Café are open to the public. Traveling north on Route 71 into Sea Girt and Spring Lake, you can turn right onto Ocean Avenue into Belmar and Asbury Park. You can then park the car and walk on the newly built boardwalks beside the Atlantic Ocean and enjoy the new restaurants there alive again with people. The same ocean that drove people from their homes is drawing many of them back again. It's the summer of 2013, and tourists are here to see the new Jersey Shore back on its feet again! Frank Finale is the author of the books "To The Shore Once More, Volumes I & II" and "A Gull's Story, Parts 1, 2, and 3" as well as coeditor of the anthologies "Under A Gull's Wing" and "The Poets of New Jersey." Mr. Finale will be meeting readers and signing books at numerous events this season. Please refer to pages 60-65 for more information about his books and appearances. 57
