The Press-Dispatch Wednesday, April 7, 2021 B-5 Pentecostal Nazarene Presbyterian Wesleyan MINUTES Continued from page 3 to the time when we graduate from this life into eternity, 1 Corinthians 3:8 says: "…every man shall receive his own re- ward according to his own la- bour." With absolute certain- ty, we are assured the Lord will handsomely reward us for service done for the Lord Je- sus Christ after salvation. Re- confirming this confidence, the Apostle Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians 15:58: "There- fore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmovable, al- ways abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know your labour is not in vain in the Lord." As we meditate on this en- couraging promise, we should also comprehend one key re- lated truth. Any reward will be proportionate to our effort in service. As stated above, ev- eryone will be given reward "…according to his own la- bour" (1 Cor. 3:8). If we choose to do little or nothing for the Lord after salvation, this will be reflected in little reward received. Second Cor- inthians 9:6 states it this way: "…he which soweth sparing- ly shall also reap sparingly; and he which soweth bounti- fully shall reap also bountiful- ly." As a high school yearbook reflects one's participation in school, or lack thereof, our records in eternity will corre- spond with our service and re- ward. That makes it important for us to busy ourselves now with activities that will mat- ter once we reach eternity. We can serve Christ by inviting or transporting folks to church, presenting the gospel, hand- ing out gospel tracts, serving in the church nursery, teach- ing the Scriptures, assisting in youth ministries, giving faithfully, doing follow-up on visitors, befriending newcom- ers to church, and much more. The limit on serving Christ is only our imagination and our willingness. Don't be among the fool- ish who serve only self in this life. Choose to do something today to further the cause of Christ. Remember, there will be a payday someday. Methodist Methodist PAWS WEEK PAWS WEEK Pet of the FUNNY FACE "When you touch a cat with your spirit, in return they touch your soul with their heart"— Unknown. This week, PAWS is fea- turing a fastidious young feline named Funny Face, who likes to jump from cat tree to cat tree with the precision and accura- cy unmatched by most oth- er felines in the cat room. She is meticulously clean and loves to saunter onto the cat porch to sun herself in the early morning. Fun- ny Face is a pastel calico, with a peach and gray face and large golden eyes. Her markings are very attrac- tive and somewhat unique. She can be adopted by call- ing 812-345 -9894. Our cousins who have moved from Indiana to Ten- nessee came up to Evansville to play around Tropicana for a couple of days. They wanted us to come there to see them, which we did. We ate at the restaurant in the casino and then we all headed home. I do not like casinos, because I just can't stand to give my money away but there lots of people who get loads of fun from tak- ing their chances. As far as I know from my studies it isn't wrong to patronize the casi- no but if you take away from your family to go there you are wrong in my opinion. So please make sure your family is cared for first and foremost. A couple we are friends with asked us to attend their Good Friday service in Princ- eton. We all had a good time. We listened to a Jewish man compare the Passover feast with the coming of Jesus and the reason for each symbolic rite during the feast. He was a member of Jews for Jesus and they are ministering to other Jews and trying to show them the love of Christ. It was very interesting and educational. Saturday was extreme- ly busy because we went through the house straight- ening it up to a presentable condition. Then to Jay C store to buy two dozen donuts for Sunday brunch at church. Took our son to Jasper to pick up his car and then flew low home to get wife and grand- kids to go to Easter egg hunt at church. When we traveled home from the hunt it was pleasant to drive a little slow- er and take life a little slower. I was happy to see our grandkids hunting for eggs at the church egg hunt and find- ing several eggs. There were several age divisions laid out and it was extremely easy for each child to find plenty of eggs. The ladies who set up the egg hunt did a great job. Our Sunday brunch was delicious and had something for everyone from casseroles to donuts so if you didn't get your fill it would have to be your own fault. The youth performed an act which cov- ered Mary finding an empty tomb and Peter and John go- ing back with her to see the empty tomb. Jesus appeared to the disciples later in the day and Thomas wasn't with them so he was doubtful as they told him of Jesus' being there with them. Jesus showed Thom- as the pierced side and nail holes in His hands. Upon see- ing Thomas believed, but Je- sus said the ones who be- lieve without having to see are blessed even more. The greatest thought for this day is the tomb is empty and we now have a Savior who has gone to be with Father God to prepare a place for us and now we shall wait until the day He comes back to take us home. Remember to be a blessing to all we meet this week and be careful to show God's love to all. Review Luke 10 :27-37 and come share your ideas with us on Wednes- day at 6:30 p.m. "Now Mary stood outside the tomb crying. As she wept, she bent over to look into the tomb and saw two angels in white, seated where Jesus' body had been, one at the head and the other at the foot. They asked her, "Woman, why are you crying? " They have taken my Lord away," she said, "and I don't know where they have put him." At this, she turned around and saw Jesus stand- ing there, but she did not re- alize that it was Jesus. He asked her, "Woman, why are you crying? Who is it you are looking for? " Thinking he was the gardener, she said, "Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have put him, and I will get him." Jesus said to her, "Mary." She turned to- ward him and cried out in Ara- maic, "Rabboni," which means "Teacher" ( John 20 11-16). God Bless. Michael (Mike) Punke, Pas- tor PETERSBURG FREE METHODIST CHURCH 202 Walnut Street As the number of COVID cas- es decreases, people are start- ing to return to many of the ac- tivities they have been missing. We are returning to many of our regular activities. We cur- rently meet in person for wor- ship service at 10 :30 a.m. on Sunday. The messages are al- so live on Facebook, or you can watch the message later. With the weather getting warmer, we will start transmitting via an FM station, if you prefer to stay in your car and listen in the church parking lot. We will let people know when we start broadcasting and what channel to tune into. Sunday school for all ages re- opens at 9:30 a.m. Location of the classes has changed. We will help you get to the proper classroom. We have also started a new Sunday School class called "The Journey." Jodi Correll is teach- ing. This is not an age-based class. It is a discipleship class designed to help people know Scripture better, and become more like Jesus. It is a great class for young adults, new be- lievers and people who just want to be refreshed and grow, even if they have been following Je- sus for years. Youth Group meets at 5 p.m. on Sunday. It is our goal for our youth group to be service ori- ented. The teens will do a work project at someone's house or other ministry, and have a brief devotional. It is important that we have your contact information and a way to contact each teen, because we may meet at the church, or at the place we will be serving. Families are welcome take part in the service project, but the parents are responsible for their children. The nursery will remain closed for now. We don't believe it is a good idea to allow children of different families to play together at this time. If your child needs to be tak- en out of the service, the nurs- ery can always be used as a place to change your child, or as a cry room. It is important that everyone wears their masks until they reach their seat. We also ask that people stay with the group they came with and not shake hands. We use every other pew, and ask that you stay socially dis- tanced from those in your pew who you did not come with. We make every effort to ster- ilize our facility between ser- vices. There is a basket as you en- ter the sanctuary for tithes and offerings. You may also give online through petersburgfmc. org. There is a link to our website on our Facebook page also, and we often put announcements and information on both pages. Peace and joy in the Lord. But while tears can blur our vision, they can also clarify our sight to reveal new truths. Perhaps we can see our way to reach out to someone in pain. I believe that when we have walked through pain and grief, we may be the only one able to see clearly another person walking the same path, WHITE RIVER CHAPEL UMC 3555 W. Building a relationship with God is a question that most of us think about often, but it doesn't have to be compli- cated. If you have a desire to build a relationship with God, that is the essential first step. That sets your intention and focus. The rest is a matter of taking regular baby steps towards God and being open to what happens. God is not going to knock you over to get closer to you. We have the freedom to in- vite Him into our lives or not. You're not likely to wake up one morning with the certain feeling that you've become friends with God (though that could happen). Like hu- man relationships, it usually takes an investment of time and attention and caring, and it's up to you to take the initia- tive of moving closer to God— of placing yourself in His pres- ence and just abiding there. You might not even feel any- thing at all at first. But when you do this over and over again, the emotion and belief will follow, and you'll begin to trust He is with you and is guiding you.
