Poplar Street, Petersburg While our children were growing up, by God's gracious provision, our family had a small janitorial business to supplement our fi- nancial needs. We always took the children even if all they were able to do was gather the wastebaskets. One day, the girls were less than enthusiastic about their participation. So, with- out really thinking it through, I told them: "If you work hard with a good attitude, when you graduate high school, mom and I will buy you a car." I only promised that once but, they nev- er forgot it, nor would they let me forget, nor allow me not to follow through on my promise. Our Heavenly Father has a fantastic prom- ise for every blood-bought believer. Referring There are thousands of different religions in our world. There is one thing that makes Christianity different from all others and that is the bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ. Christ alone rose from the dead and is alive to- day. It is the resurrection, more than anything else, that proves Jesus Christ is the Son of God. The resurrection is the foundation of the Christian faith. The Bible states, "and if Christ be not risen then…your faith is in vain." (I Cor. 15:14) Christ's resurrection proves He was more than just a great teacher or leader. We celebrate Easter because Christ lives today, and we have His promise that He will return. More people attend church on Easter Sun- day than any other Sunday in the year. Millions will gather in His name in every nation. It was my privilege to speak in Russia when the peo- ple celebrated their first Easter in 70 years. A f- ter all those years under Atheism, many wor- shiped God on Easter for the first time. Many told me, "In my heart I always wondered if there might be a God with a Son named Jesus." Their hunger for God was evi- dent and that first Easter in many years was a glo- rious day. Among the fundamental teachings of Chris- tianity is the Virgin birth and bodily resurrec- tion of Christ. This truth is essential to all who call themselves Christian. This Easter some will worship in great cathedrals and others un- der trees in remote villages. Wherever people gather to worship this Easter may Christ and His teachings be proclaimed. My family and I are blessed beyond our expectations. Mowing season caught my son with a dead battery on his mower. They shouldn't go down so much they won't start the mower, but some- times it happens. We got him running and ready to mow. I can remember as a young man it was hard to get his help, but now that he has his own yard, he has become a little more particular with how it looks. Amazing how we grow up and change our attitudes when we realize it has become our responsibility to get things done. I was glad to take it easy one day last week as my foot is hurting me and I really don't know why. I have not twisted it nor have I strained myself so I'm waiting until my doctors visit to see about it. I think I can live with the con- stant toothache in my foot like old man Tuck- er dies from in the song "Old Man Tucker." I have been able to exercise without walking on the treadmill, but it doesn't seem to be a com- plete workout. Apparently our grandson has issues with sugar and caffeine because whenever he gets too much of either one he gets really hyper and acts out easily. He got into some candy one day last week and it caused him to get pretty row- dy. I know I need a cup of strong coffee to get what senses I have left working in a somewhat right direction. Caffeine is good and bad be- cause when you get too much of it you get the jitters. So if it hurts adults it would have to af- fect children in an adverse way.
