Ver- non on April 2 in their season-opening match by the score of 5 -0. Pike Central's Ella McGuire fell in number one singles to Lauren Boeke 0 -6, 2-6 on the home court. Shelby Keeker lost her match in number two singles to Morgan Woods 1-6, 2-6 and Jaime Jallee fell to Mt. Ver- non's Lily Denning 0 -6, 2-6 in number three singles. Kenley Beck and Zoey Davbis lost 6 -7, 3-6 in a close number one doubles match with Brooklyn Shell and Jenna Veatch. Reagan Craig and Ella Adams lost 2-6, 2-6 in number two doubles ac- tion to Mt. Vernon's Grace Lueber and Emma Schmidt. The junior varsity faired much better with a 6 -3 decision, followed by a 6 -0 win for Gabby Collins and Alaina Johnson. Tigers nab opening with Pike Central thin clads Young wins both hurdles events Pike Central track traveled to Princeton for their sea- son opener on the last day of March and came away with losses in both the boys' and girls' competition. The Princ- eton Tigers dominated the re- lays, winning all six, and add- ing 17 first-place finishes in the men's and women's indi- vidual track and field events. The Charger boys fell to the Tigers 81-47 and the girls lost 89 -31 to their new Pocket Ath- letic Conference rival. Coach Chris Kramer said, "For our first meet this year, I feel like we did well in a lot of areas. Also, considering the wind and rain we had, all of our kids did well adjusting to the conditions. It definitely made our freshmen and soph- omores learn quickly how the meets are run and also deal with some adversity with the conditions. "Our distance runners did a great job all night for us. We had some good times to start off the year and compet- ed well. It was a tough night for our pole vaulters with the rainy and windy conditions, and being able to just hold on- to the pole, but we feel like most of them got off to a good start. Lauren Young did really well for the girls, winning both the hurdles events. She also ran a good leg of the 4x100 me- ter relay. Garrett Boyd also did well in the sprinting event for the boys. He won the 200 me- ter and got second in the 100. In the girls' meet, senior Lauren Young was a solid win in the 300 HH, clocking 54.25, with Morgan Anderson third in 59.25. Young had a time of 18.23 to win the 100 HH and Anderson took third in 19.40. Erika Vinnedge and Quin- lan Teague had two seconds Lady Charger number two singles player Shelby Keeker faced off with Mt. Vernon senior Morgan Woods this past Friday on the home courts. Lady Charger number one singles player Ella McGuire battled Mt. Vernon's Lauren Boeke on April 2 on the Pike Central courts. Loogootee has big seventh inning at PC The Loogootee Lions pre- vailed over the home standing Pike Central Chargers with a five-run, top-of-the-seventh inning last week. The Char- gers trailed 1-3 in the fourth and made it a 2-4 contest in the fifth, only to slip behind 8 -2 in the final frame. Kendric Sorgius pitched six innings, giving up one earned run, while striking out six. Jagar Dent, Sorgius, Brody Rice, Peyton Howald, Zack Miller and Devin Carlisle all had hits in the late game charge ahead by the Lions. First year coach Jacob West- ern said, "(I) saw a lot of good things in game one, just have to keep learning and getting better everyday." Burdette and Harley May combined to pitch the 10 -run rule, shorted five in- ning contest. Coach Western said, "A per- fectly executed squeeze bunt from Alex Clark was a high- light of the game.
