" Nadie sale de sus pueblos ni abandona a la familia por gus- to, lo hace por necesidad. La mayoría de los migrantes son jóvenes, entonces sí hay manera de atender el fondo del problema. Nosotros, como lo mencionó Marcelo Ebrard, des- de hace dos años estamos ayudando, incluso fi nanciando a nuestros hermanos Centroamericanos, pero EE.UU no está invirtiendo lo sufi ciente, lo necesario y se necesitan atender las causas", señaló desde Palacio Nacional López Obrador puso de ejemplo el programa "Sembrando Vida" donde el gobierno mexicano cultiva 1 millón de hectáreas de árboles frutales y maderables y da empleo a 420 mil sem- bradores. Dijo que este programa, que ha costado 1.200 millo- nes de dólares, podría ampliarse en países como Honduras, El Salvador y Guatemala, lo que ayudaría a atender las causas del fenómeno migratorio. Según un reciente informe de las Naciones Unidas, la región que rodea la frontera entre Estados Unidos y México es una de las más "mortíferas para los mi- grantes", y el número de víc- timas mortales aumenta cada año. En concreto, dijo que su predecesor recortó la capacidad de camas en la frontera y redujo los fondos al Departamento de Seguridad Na- cional, lo que está derivando en un mayor tiempo de estancia de los migrantes bajo custodia. "Lo que estamos haciendo ahora es tratar de reconstruir el sistema para que podamos ser capaces de responder a lo que está pasando", dijo el presidente.
