WELCOME Boardwalk Recollections, Alexis Cuozzo See Frederick Galleries, page 58 W elcome to the Jersey Shore, our first summer post-Sandy. The coast will forever be altered by the catastrophe, yet the Shore remains a place of beauty and goodness. Although it's going to take many years for the residents here to rebuild (and many will not recover), public life continues and most businesses that were damaged in the storm are now open, bringing some normalcy back to our lives. Most of these businesses are owned by locals, and whether their businesses or homes were damage in the storm or not, all have been impacted by it. The best help one can give to the shore this summer is by coming here—staying, shopping, and dining here. Offering your presence and friendship here. And although you'll still see sand on our streets and lawns, it is a reminder of where you are—and where you are not. That sand is a part of us all now. It is nature revealed. If you love the shore, as most who live here do, embrace the sand and the sea. On the beach this summer, rub the sand between your hands and taste the sea on your tongue. Their power has brought us to our knees yet given us the most beautiful stage on which to act out the stories of our lives. Although the Superstorm has taken so much away, the restoration of human kindness, unity, humility, and the "true, better self" it has given us is a bigger gift than the material things we have lost. From the storm, better things will come. For these things and more, I am grateful. It is my hope you'll use the resources in this guidebook and seize the day here at the beautiful Jersey Shore. —George Valente, Editor and Publisher Subscriptions and Book Orders, Toll Free: 888-22-SHORE • www.jerseyshorevacation.com 2013 marks our 30th year of publishing magazines, guidebooks, maps, internet sites, and beautiful books about the Jersey Shore.
