Get your pride on and attend some events in a location to be held near you. Some of the more local events are listed in the "Events Listing" on page 20! Recently I took a huge leap of faith and resigned my postion as City Clerk for the City of Oneonta. After 20+ years on the job, I decided I needed a change; I was stagnating and not being challenged in the way I wanted to be. Like a book, chapters end, and new ones begin. I look forward to what lays ahead in terms of my advocacy and activism, and new professional pursuits. Just like my leap of faith, if you are in the closet, I encourage you to muster up the courage to come out, and live your lives the way you are supposed to, as out, proud individuals. You can do it. I know you can. We are here for you when you take your leap of faith and honor your true selves. You will not be disappointed you did. Life is waiting for you! As many of you are aware, a number of years ago, I received a menacing letter from a homophobe; anonymous of course. Well, I must report I recevied another one recently, but this time the homophobe signed her name. I must give her credit, as she did not cower in anonymity and she didnt' threaten my life. However, the tone of the letter was as ignorant and blatantly homophobic, and based in so much innuendo about what being gay is not. I feel sorry for these blissfully ignorant fools. I really do. However, when I get letters like this, it just reminds me that we have a lot of work to do yet. It revs me up even more to forge ahead to continue to change people's minds or at least help to educate them about what being queer really means. Rock on and COME OUT and JOIN US!
