Built sometime in the 15th century – before the birth of Christopher Columbus – the chapel is still used for Mass today. "It is the only medieval structure in the entire Western Hemisphere dedicated to its original purpose," tour guide Nelda Rouleau said. Rouleau, 91, has been giving tours of the chapel for 14 years. With a smile, she said it's in atonement for her family history. She can trace her roots to Bishop Pierre Cauchon, the man who condemned Joan of Arc, who was then burned alive at the stake in 1431.
