Fortunately,many financiallystruggling homeownershavebeen abletotakeadvantage ofmortgageforbear- anceprotectionallowed undertheCARESAct passedbyCongressin March.Thiswillenable borrowersoffederally backedmortgages,in- cludingFreddieMac, FannieMae,VA,FHA andUSDAloans,to requestmortgagefor- bearance—thetem- porarysuspensionof requiredmortgagepay- ments—forupto180 days. Theproblemis,those sixmonthshaveexpired orwillsoonformany borrowerswhoearlier pursuedforbearance. They'reworriedabout whatwillhappennextor iftheyhaveanyoptions topursue. Thankfully,theyhave choices,includingthe optiontoextendforbear- anceprotectionforan additional180days.
