On Saturday, May 18th, it rained and rained. It must have been a good sign for the very first annual Chase FFA Alumni Farm Day. The event went on in spite of the rain. Dedicated and determined, rain coats, umbrellas and boots were the order of the day. Under tents the show went on. Sawmill demonstrations, tractors, a blacksmith working, Chase FFA members anxious to tell you all about the program, fresh strawberries for sale, roasted corn on a stick, great BBQ and even a silent auction showed the attitude that it takes to be a great future farmer of this country. There's no doubt that what transpired during the first Chase FFA Alumni Farm Day was inspirational, educational and fun. Ashley Adams, a Chase and Clemson graduate and President of the Chase FFA Alumni put the Chase Farm Day together with the help of former Chase Ag teacher, Johnny Bradley and current Chase agriculture advisors, Jeremy Bradley and Donnie Henson, Chase High School has great facilities which include a furnished ag shop, two greenhouses and an animal unit. The Supervised Agriculture Experience is one of the best in the county. When you talk to Chase FFA members they all will tell you that the program teaches leadership and responsibility. The program provides agricultural science, industry, business and production achieved by in-class and lab instruction. This great program teaches you how to accept challenge and succeed. It is well known that the Chase FFA Chapter is rooted in a strong tradition and provides extensive opportunities for its members. Although it rained, the first annual Chase FFA Alumni Farm Day was definitely a success. We can only look forward to next year to share in the education provided. It is a great idea and will only add to the accolades already in place for our Chase High School Future Farmers of America. May you continue to "plow the fields of achievement". Congratulations to all! Roger Tate of "One Man Band" displays custom sawing with a TimberKing Portable Sawmill. Blacksmith Ronnie Lovelace demonstrates the art of being a blacksmith.
