THE FIRST LATINA CLERK OF THE CIRCUIT COURT OF COOK COUNTY Iris Y. Martinez made history as the first Latina elected clerk of the circuit court of Cook County, the largest of the 24 judicial circuits in Illinois as well as one of the largest unified court systems in the United States. Martinez was sworn into her first term in the Illinois Senate on Jan. 8, 2003, to represent the 20th Legislative District. Her election marked the first time a Latina had been elected to the state Senate. FROM UNITED AIRLINES TO WIPFLI David Romero is the new director of diversity, equity, and inclusion of Wipfli, which ranks among the top 20 accounting and business consul- ting firms in the nation. It has more than 2,400 associates, 48 offices and more than 100,000 clients. Rome- ro was manager of global diversity and inclusion of United Airlines. He managed various projects, pro- grams, and external partnerships to recruit, develop and retain top diverse talent. LUCINO SOTELO JOINS NORTHERN TRUST Lucino Sotelo is the new chief digi- tal officer of wealth management at Northern Trust Corp. He was lea- ding sales and marketing for the managed, lease, and services team at KemperSports, a market leader in golf course development, marke- ting, and management. Previously, Sotelo was vice president of mar- keting at Grainger and the chief marketing officer, U.S. personal and commercial, for BMO Harris Bank. EIRA CORRAL IS THE FIRST LATINA IN THIS POSITION Eira Corral Sepúlveda is the first Lati- na elected to the board of commis- sioners of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chi- cago, which has been in existence for 131 years. Corral Sepúlveda, 35, also adds representation from the northwestern suburbs, which his- torically has been lacking on the board.
