O C E A N M I S T F A R M S I S A B L U E Z O N E S P R O J E C T A P P R O V E D W O R K S I T E Monterey Mushrooms awards 76 scholarships to employees' children Monterey Mushrooms presented 76 children of its employees with $182,000 in scholarship awards for the 2020-21 academic year. Some $169,000 was issued to recipients in the United States and another $13,000 to recipients in Mexico. Dependent children of full- time employees are eligible to apply for a scholarship of up to $3,000 and for up to four years. The Monterey Mushrooms scholarship program began in 1992. It was renamed the Carl Victor Fields Scholar- ship Program in 2004 to honor the company's past vice president of marketing who was passionate about the importance of young people achieving their potential. Since inception 2,293 grants have been awarded for a total of more than $3.18 million. Scholarships are awarded to students who pursue higher education degrees at accredited colleges, univer- sities and vocation/technical schools. To apply, the stu- dent shares their education- al background, academic goals and aspirations, school activities, work experience and personal achievements. "We don't just grow mush- rooms; we grow people," said Shah Kazemi, president and CEO. Kazemi said. This incredible commitment and support to giving the next generation of decision mak- ers the tools they need to be successful in society and the workplace, is evident in the voices of the recipients. Fabiola Vera, scholarship recipient said, "I am honored to have received this oppor- tunity and couldn't be more thankful!" Cecilia Garcia Tovar, an- other scholarship recipient, said, "This scholarship will help me become a Elemen- tary Teacher to help future generations strive for them to advocate for their goals and dreams - but most importantly - to support, teach, and guide them. Kazemi said, "For 28 years we have been honored and privileged to be able to support these dedicated young people in their educational pursuits.
