Kentucky bow season opened yes- terday. The morning was exceptionally cool. I know that because I stepped out on my patio to confi rm. Yeah, I know. You think I should have been sitting in that tree stand. You might be right, but since I hadn't checked my trail camera in a couple of weeks, I didn't know if my sitting would be in vain. In the early season, I'm not expecting the unex- pected like I am around Halloween. This time of year, pre- dictability and familiarity are the norm. If he's not around now, he probably won't be until he starts looking for a doe. So, I wait. Tomorrow, however, I'm making a trip there to check my camera to see if I should have been there in- stead of on my patio. I've seen a good buck there recently, but the bears seem to be ruling the roost right now. Again, the norm has been to have tons of pictures of bears and a few pictures of deer. This will change, but I'll have to get through this season of the usual and routine. But who likes to do that? If you think about it, most of our life is made up of the things that have no special signifi cance. We get up, go to work, maneuver through our day, come home, enjoy family time or a hobby, and do it all over again the next day. And one day adds to another, and to another, until we have put together… well, until we have put together something that is signifi cant. It may be an earned degree, a debt paid off, or a child raised and released into adult- hood. But a string of routine occurrences can produce a really special moment for rejoicing. That's why we have to remember, while each day in itself may seem mundane; it is actually a part of something we never imagined would be accomplished. Because if you look back at any sig- nifi cant moment in your life, you will notice, it was most likely ushered in by those things that were predictable and familiar. This means I better get in that tree stand. What I see, hear and learn during these early days, might be the sole reason I am able to get a shot at a good buck when my opportunity comes. Josh says there were 10-12 inches of snow on Tuesday morning as shown on the deck of his home. He also said during the 10 years he and his family have been in Casper, this was the earliest snowfall he's seen. Josh is the son of Jennifer Spearman of Spindale and the late Vance Perry. His brother Aaron Perry of Asheville submitted the photography to Boyer. Operation Lifesaver, Inc., Operation Lifesaver Canada and the Asociación Mexicana de Ferrocarriles (Mexican Association of Railroads, or AMF) will support this public awareness initiative to encourage drivers and pedestrians to practice safe behavior near railroad tracks. Rail Safety advocates such as North Carolina Operation Lifesaver and NCDOT's BeRailSafe work together all year to raise rail safety awareness throughout the state and will tackle a different theme every day this year during Rail Safety Week. According to N.C. Operation Lifesaver, North Carolina is ranked 13th nationally in highway/rail crossing casualties and 6th in trespassing incidents. Alarmingly, every three hours in the U.S., a person or vehicle is hit by a train. Due to Covid-19, much of 2020's activities will be virtual. INTERNATIONAL RAIL SAFETY WEEK Article Provided By: ncdoi The N.C. Department of Revenue will upgrade a number of online payment web pages on the agency website in September. The web pages involved do not require a login and password, and primarily deal with individual income and corporate income and franchise payments. There are a number of improvements in this upgrade including: • The new payment web pages are compatible with most current web browsers. • The new payment web pages will work on mobile devices like smart phones and tablets. • Taxpayers will be able to schedule estimated payments up to one year in advance. • The new payment web pages will have a more modern and streamlined appearance. This upgrade is the second phase of an electronic services project that began with the introduction of a new agency website in December of 2017. The specifi c fi le and pay web pages to be replaced are: • D-400V Individual Income Payment • D-400V Amended Individual Income Payment • NC-40 Individual Income Estimated Tax • D-410 Individual Income Application for Extension • CD-V Franchise Tax and Corporate Income Tax Payment • CD-V Amended Franchise Tax and Corporate Income Tax Payment Vouchers • CD-429 Corporate Estimated Income Tax • CD-419 Application for Extension for Franchise and Corporate Income Tax The agency will announce the specifi c go- live date for the upgrade later this month.
